Damn I might have to give in and join the Prusa club.
Also that video is 4 minutes and 20 seconds.
Curious how much the new MMU improves over the previous ones. The previous ones had pretty bad reviews. I’ll be interested to see how people like the new one.
I built my own printer, learnt heaps, used it a bit and then the boat came along and I didn’t want to “play” with the printer, I just wanted to print stuff. So I brought the MK3 when I came out or not long after.
To be honest and not wanting start a " this printer /cheaper / easier " flame war, I have not looked back. the support you receive from Prusa support even after 4 years is utterly impressive.
But you know what sold me on the MK4?
It was the upgrade option to take a MK3/3s etc up to a 4! That is stupid easy money for them and it made me feel actually wanted as a user. Being able to upgrade my printer, Ok at a bit of cost, to the latest design/ Firmware is an easy sell.
I will admit I have been looking for a bit more speed, to the point that was looking at a VORON2.4 build before committing to the LR3. But and nearly 2k that was a lot of money to throw at a new printer when really the only thing i was look for was a bit more speed.
So it looks like my new project lists goes
(save for mk4 upgrade) while…
Finish the LR3 and get it cutting
Look at the IDEX build…
justify to myself that I need the IDEX build now and to do that I need the MK4 and take another mortgage to do it all now. …
If you wait a month or two until YouTubers start receiving their MK4s, you will see a bunch of head-to-head comparisons. If you add up the costs including the enclosure, the X1+AMS is about $300 USD cheaper. I’m not shopping for a new printer, but if I was, my one big issue with X1 is the requirement of a proprietary slicer.
The X1 seems like an amazing package for it’s price - but one of the reasons for how they keep the price so low, is that many parts are machine made and proprietary. I like Prusa’s approach better, even though it costs more. But then again - if the difference is significant, and multifilament is a must - then price would certainly matter!
Now she’s questioning why I am talking about buying a kit - “why not just buy one ready made?” she asks!!! I know our days on this planet are numbered, but seriously??
I love the arguments everywhere about “value”. It’s less than I paid for my phone and I still haven’t figured out where to put the filament on that.
Timing is all - there’s quite a rush on at the moment - kits are up to six weeks out (maybe) so I think I’m going to sit back for a while rather than have it push out to a time when I’m away.
From watching some of the X1 videos over the last few months, seems like it is quite noisy & Prusa says there MK4 is quite quiet. Did I not hear that correctly? Seems like being quiet would be a very good selling point.
Good point. Here is another one where he addresses the noise & opens & closes the door so you can hear the difference. Closing that door does make a big difference.
I couldn’t print PLA with the doors open in our climate - it really doesn’t like it when the chamber temp gets above 32° or so (C) - I run open doors and a 90mm exhaust fan (Prusa Mk3 in Lack enclosure).
My machine is quiet enough so that I can sit it beside me all day while I work - when it’s in the next room for many operations you can’t tell if it’s running.
I am a Prusa fan, no doubt about that, but I can’t see the benefit (for me) in the Bambu product, in real life there is a definite trade-off in quality for the speed thing that I don’t want to make. If the Mk4 really can get rid of the ringing in draft mode I’ll be super happy. - All fittings in the pic are printed in Draft mode .3mm layer height. Yes I am kind of the opposite of a speed freak, and the fitting in the pic with the thread on it is only acceptable because it’s going to be completely hidden!
The kit delivery date has pushed out to 6 weeks at the moment, so I guess I’ll be ordering in September for an October delivery!
As a long term Mac user I’m used to the haters, but the level of vitriol that’s being levelled at Prusa at the moment from some quarters of the internet, some of it very personal is astonishing!
I guess none of those who think the product is “too expensive” own an iPhone . The bloke with the Voron who said it was “too slow” and PrusaSlicer was rubbish made me laugh. I haven’t been paying attention, but do Prusa fan-boys say rude things about Bambu (hmm maybe they do although the Bambu converts are among the most vocal) and Voron owners?
At the end of the day every brand has it’s good and bad points, but why the actual personal attacks and irrational criticism of a product that hasn’t been tested in the marketplace?
