I printed and assembled the original mushroom a year ago(january '23 I think): Never worked -_-
It was very sloppy and unresponsive
I’ll try the remix

Clever idea. I bet you’d have to print one for each head type. But I would prefer this. It looks like it might in the gridfinity boxes I already use.
This is quite a seductive project I must say, but I don’t get what it does really.
Is it just for moving stuff around?
So in an ideal world, to make the most efficient use of my time, I could have my Magic Mouse, a Space Mouse, and my Wacom tablet all connected at once, and pay a chap to operate them!!
OK that is neat. I have a Yukon tool box from harbor freight in the computer/3d printer room and one of the drawers in it is dedicated to nothing but screws. I have a good bit of gridfinity in it but it hasn’t really been organized yet. Was telling my wife yesterday I want to label all the bins and take the screws out of the bags and have everything nice and organized. Then I got to thinking she is going to find some screws one day and then all my sizes will be jumbled up. Something like this might be the ticket for when that happens LOL
In a CAD assembly, it saves a whole lot of mousing to get to different views for mates/joints. If you are ever giving a presentation about the assembly, or part it lets you smoothly move the item around on the screen without making everyone motion sick.
If you use CAD assemblies a lot it is a loved controller. If you do not, no big deal. I do not use mine for making parts at all.
If you have ever wanted to just grab your part and move it, it is useful.
Oh dear, I’ll put it on the list…
This right here. I got a space mouse a few years ago as a Christmas/birthday gift (cant remember, I’m getting old) It took me a wile to actually get used to it. Now that I am I cant stand messing with CAD without it. I am not very proficient with it because I just don’t do it enough but its still 100 times faster than trying to move the view around with a mouse lol.
It sucks right after drawing up a sketch in fusion/onshape and then throw it in estlcam, I immediately grab the space mouse to move it around every single time lol.
I got a space mouse a month or so ago handed down to me at work and started using it immediately for some simple drawings and it took me a bit to get used to its sensitivity. It can really put you in outer space quickly if you don’t have a fine touch. It is certainly a “nice to have” though.
speaking of space, I’ve seen a few folks use it as a controller for star citizen.
I am following along with great interest…
A few of us got to do that first brass rod cutting demo at RMRRF…it was awesome. The price for a diy 2D kit is very reasonable, the one shown in the video there that can cut tapers was there as well but I am not sure about control software for that part of it yet, 2D stuff, no problem.
I asked about filtering since it does make a mess quickly, they said currently the water easily lasts for single parts and when you swap material you just swap the water. Filters can be added.
I really do want one, as soon as I come up with a part that needs it!
I love that that video showed the speeds as well.
DIY EDM wire cutting at home… The world is going bonkers. I think we are in a technical “leaping” period. And I don’t think AI is the only reason. I think the decentralisation of specialized knowledge will bring some significant changes. The engineers are losing their monopoly
Oh buddy I had a whole existential break down the last few days thinking about this. I might start a new topic about my thoughts…
Well, then you are in good company! I may not be an engineer, but I’m quite competent in regard to existential issues…
Joking aside, I can imagine that this “new reality” would impact v1e. I’m not a fortune teller, but I think it’s still necessary with initiatives like yours. Few know how to build their own CNC, even though it can feel like it here in the forum! I think of v1e as a great gateway. (Or to me an end stop, because of all the great people )
V1EDM confirmed
Very easy to add the Rack system to any CNC or printer. Super excited to follow along with this. For now though I don’t need these sorts of 2D parts (or tapered 2D parts). Wonder what it takes for us to mill our own carbon bucks and do some plunge EDM with that power supply…
? EDM cut Carbon steel buck knife with carbon fiber grip, laser engraved blade, with rgb leds?
