Is there a way to set the max distance the machine is allowed to move?
If I am remembering correctly the build guide only calls for one X stop and no Y stops at the end of the machine.
I would like to set it up to where if I home the machine it isn’t allowed to move past the 1200x2400 max x/y. I know this wouldn’t work in all cases such as setting 0,0 outside of it’s normal home position, but would be nice to have.
You can set soft limits, that work AFTER you home. Or you can add Max limit switches to set hard limits.
This still works you just have to get comfortable using workspaces, easy enough.
Usually this is not needed, can I ask what you are trying to prevent, as in when has this happened to you? Even if you have these in place you have to stop rehome and adjust accordingly. Hitting a max should never really happen, if you are worried it is best to do an aircut around your parts’ perimeter first. I guess what I am getting at is there are better practices than relying on limits, hitting limits usually means you made a mistake in CAM and you lost your parts.
Be aware that the stepper motors will skip steps at the end of physical travel rather than tear the machine apart. I know there are other machines with the ability to damage themselves in a “crash” but the nema 17 motors here are protection against that happening on the V1/MPCNC machines.
