LR3 in the High Desert

I did have a few basic questions, if you have time.

  • Do you happen to have a link to the button you installed?
  • Which pins did you use for the display?
  • Did you need to do anything special to get the progress bar? (This seems really cool.)

Nope, I didn’t do any programming for the screen.

Tests look good! I’m pleasantly surprised with how well cherry wood mills. Tomorrow is the real cut…

First cut is done and I’m pleased with it. There’s a LOT of sanding in my immediate future…

I guess one of us needs to create a “sanding robot” to go behind the “spinning murder robot cutting monster thing”!

Very nice beautiful design. Cherry is wonderfull but sharp tools and correct feed are require to prevent burning it looks like you nailed it. I love working with cherry finishes wonderful and gets more beautiful with age.

How long did it take to do all of the holes? I’ve read some other posts about using a drill bit (designed for less than router speeds) vs cnc bit which can’t go as fast. Wondering how it went for you.

The holes are pretty fast. On the order of 15-20 minutes.

I’m using the 1/8" carbide drill bit from IDC Woodcraft that’s designed for this use case, and it cuts beautifully. No worrying about the bit heating up too much, and you plunge pretty quickly with it.

There’s a bit for everything! Thanks for the info. It looks beautiful; whoever gets that board is going to be real chuffed. So cool!

So what did you use for Resume, is it this cycle_start_pin: and add a gpio?

That goes and tells it to resume, or something else?

Exactly. Mine is on whatever input is unoccupied between the limit switches and the probe. And it simply resumes whenever there’s a Hold. Same as entering the ~ command manually in the terminal.

Awesome. I plan on working on this on Vacation here really quick. Out Friday and dont go back until 12/27. I really need to start using my cnc and my laser.

I need to work out my processes, like the tool change, and get it all down pat and start using this stuff!

Cool that you can do it with a hardware button, sucks we can’t do it with a macro…maybe we will get that as macro support in WebUI V3.

Back in the early 80’s, I wrote a TSR DOS menu program for my mom, and blew her and her co-workers away because I added in a spinner when it was doing things. So when it was reading from disk, it would use /-\| in sequence to indicate that it was doing something, and not just locked up.

I find NC Viewer to be very handy. I used it the other day to find and modify a section of gcode. It makes it very easy to find that as you scroll through the code.
