LR3 Build - the megaman

Thanks! Looks like I will be learning CAD for the bosch colt :joy:

If anyone has any pointers on this, I am all ears.

Is the diameter the exact same as any of the other routers there are already mounts for? If not, I would be really surprised if a mount does not already exist for it, did you search Printables?

An actual tip, if you follow the cad link for the blank mount it should just be changing the one dimension for the diameter of the large hole in the blank mount. Worst case the dust shoe height would also need to be edited be you won’t really know until after you print it.

When I measure the diameter it is sitting at 70.5mm. I found these two dust boots: Remix of Bosch Colt Dust Boot to make one part by GeoDave - Thingiverse and CNC Router Spindle Dust Collection Boot by Shipwreck0316 - Thingiverse. Not sure if this will work with the LR3.

@jamiek made a mount though which I found to attach it to the core: LR3 Generic Mount by Jamie | Download free STL model | Printables.com. I have printed those and they seem like they will work. I will attach some pictures.

I don’t think either one of those dust boots will work.

Give the edit a try, then you will have a custom dust boot. Printables

Well, prototype is on the mk3s+. We will see how it fits once it finishes printing! This is when I wish I had a voron

Did you happen to make a remix that would fit on the mks3+ that will fit the skr 1.2 control board and a pi @DougJoseph ? I saw a smaller one to fit the mini, but not one with integrated rpi support. I was able to score a pi from rpilocator.com.

Here is a link to a collection with my LR3 control box remixes:

There are two in there that included space for a Raspberry Pi.

This one:

LowRider 3 CNC - control box case for Raspberry Pi 4b, BTT SKR Pro 1.2 board, and BTT TFT35 E3 touchscreen (v1.3.3)

https://www.printables.com/model/256538-lowrider-3-cnc-control-box-case-for-raspberry-pi-4

and this one:

LowRider 3 CNC - control box case for BTT SKR 1.4 Turbo board, Raspberry Pi 4b, and BTT TFT35 E3 touchscreen (v1.3.5b)

If neither of those will work, maybe explain why and what change is needed.

@DougJoseph They are too tall. I can only print 250x210x210 and smaller on the mini+. Looks like if I look at the size of the part, they are both 272.50mm long. Is there any way to remix it smaller to fit the pi still?

OK, it may be doable.

The “spare room” in the case could be viewed as fat that can be trimmed, but remember there can be a need for space for wires and fingers! I tend to see it as trimming meat instead of fat, but there may be a doable path. Also, if you plan to include the internal cooling fans that the design allows for, they take up some of the space. The three dimensional measurements shown here are the space between the boards and the overall height of the print job.

Where on this is the space least important to you?

@DougJoseph since this is my first LR3 build, my guess is the 32mm towards the bottom. I would prefer to have the space between the boards.

Are you going to install cooling fans?

I lean toward tightening both spaces and leaving some margin in both areas.

I probably will. So let’s do what you suggest.

There is plenty of room under the board to stack like I have for a few of my cases. I made Jeff one to mount a pi under his board and it ads no length. There is a lot of room under and around the board for wires as well, that is why it is wedge shaped.

A super long box like is very hard to print. A vast majority of printers are 200^3 some are smaller and a few are larger. It is always best to make sure your designs for the public fit in a 200^3 if at all possible.

This shows having moved the main board down by 12.5mm, and the Pi board down by 25mm, resulting in a total height of 247.5 mm. The rectangles at at the bottom show roughly were cooling fans that are 10mm thick, would come to.

I have not yet modified the lid.

For sure. I have gone beyond that basically only upon special requests.

Speaking of which, I recently mentioned elsewhere a “Drag Chain 90 raceway curve” that was a huge print. I made it available on my Patreon page, but there I also offered a revision that’s split into three pieces so it can be accomplished on a normal printer.

Attached zip has STL files for base and lid, for v1.3.3b of LR3 control box case for SKR Pro 1.2 with TFT35 E3 and Raspberry Pi 4b - SHORTER for mks3+ (mini+)

v1.3.3b LR3 control box case for SKR Pro 1.2 with TFT35 E3 and Raspberry Pi 4b - SHORTER for mks3+ (mini+).zip (914.6 KB)

Thanks. I will take a look!
