Evening all, Just joined up to see what everyone else was doing and thought id add my progress on here as and when it happens. I am currently printing a petg-cf core as the first part and getting ready to continue printing tomorrow when this is finished. its not going to be a fast build but it will get done!
while I have your attention any suggestions where I can get galvanised tube from in the UK to suit the build or any suppliers of the alloy plates required in the UK I’m all ears.
Ahoy fellow UKer! Whereabouts in the UK are you based?
I used “FH Brundle” for my (mild steel) tube as I didn’t want to pay the oversize delivery fee on 30mm galvanized conduit. Very cheap and they cut it to length for me, too (so it was the right size rather than if I’d been at it :P)
As for the alloy plates, I’d be happy to cut a set for you at cost, though I’m not sure exactly what that would be, as I had some suitable plate in the scrap pile. Sadly not enough left for two more!
PETG-CF core sounds nice … might have to get on that myself as I think mine (bog standard PLA) is just starting to show signs of cracking… But my printer has a Revo, and whilst I generally love it, the hardened nozzles are £50 a pop! I’m sure it’s awesome but it’s a lot to spend on a nozzle…
Very kind offer of machining me a set mate, if I find some material at a good price I may take you up on the offer or I’ll have to risk printing a set to get the machine running and make a pair.
I’ll have a look there for the bars too thankyou, I just found some 32mm galvanized bars for mounting TV aerials but in only 1.8m lengths I think they were £7 each and free delivery on £20+ orders. Shame there not longer
I have read the documents and wanted to do the core in petg CF for the added heat resistants, I have tonnes of pla+ and meta but they have a low melt point, I will use it for the rest of the build and see what it’s like.
Oh cool! Well in that case you could cut out the middleman and machine your plates on Nottingham Hackspace’s Superbox, if joining a makerspace is your thing.
I am interested to know if printed plates are likely to be less worse than my temp plates, which were 5mm lasercut ply.
Well now my printer is broken until I can get some parts… Didn’t manage to print much, I’ll get the core built for now and a couple pipes to start the gantry
