An opportunity to say “check your grub screws” again!

I’m guessing the USB cable is the most likely culprit in this case, but the set screws that hold the pulleys to the stepper shafts can work loose over time if they’re not secured with a light duty thread locker.

Why is a USB cable an issue. I am using Easel Pro which claims to interface with FluidNC via a USB cable however some functions are missing like probing and homing

What Britt asked you and what I asked you for (the $SS output) are both looking for the same issue.

If you have a USB + Power cable attached to the Jackpot and it powers up the ESP-32 before you’ve turned on VMOT power, the initialiation of the drivers fails and you get wonky motion.

That would be evident in the $SS output.

There are other things that could be wrong, which is why I prefer to see $SS, but the USB backpower is the #1 reason this happens.
