JJ's ERCF V2 Build

Yeah it all replaces that. If you already have the arms and mounts then you might not need those parts you might just need the coupling blocks

@Jonathjon Just trying to confirm something on the filamentalist roller. Does the 8mm metal rod need to be tight to the rim rollers ? Mine aren’t tight (cheap rods, just under 8mm) and wondering what I can do to fix it. Unfortunately I think I have to reprint all the rim rollers with with scaled down center holes.

I think they do need to be tight on there or it won’t be able to spin them backwards to rewind the spool. You might be able to get away with some kind of glue/epoxy to save the ones you’ve already printed but I’m not sure.

You definitely want them to be “freely moving” to take as much strain off as you can. The first one I printed everything came out tight and it doesn’t work well at all. Going to have to take that one back apart and clean it up for sure

I should have listened to you. So now, after printing everything for the cotton tail… I don’t like the buffer idea, and just ordered the stuff for 8 filamentalist rewinders.

Gotta love it. Carrot feeder is mostly done, just have to do the pregates and the rewinders, then I can tune it up and try it out.

Thanks again for posting all the info on these. Are the rewinders working any better for you?

The rewinders seem to be working ok. Haven’t gotten to use them as much as I would like. Fighting other issues :man_facepalming:

And here I am with my MMU banging the multicoloured prints out. :stuck_out_tongue:

Gnihihi.

You guys will get it working. I just threw money at Prusa because I am too chicken to build my own printer like you guys.

I like the challenge, and being able to say I built it when I have it putting out the same prints you do for a lot less money LOL.

As frustrating as this has been I am already thinking about building another one with just 4 gates for the V5 lol. But I am going to wait for the LDO kit to come out lol

Did you get the MMU3?

If so how is it? It also needs buffer or rewind options correct?

Maybe try the tradrack next? Or if you are feeling adventurous, 8 Track. Very interesting design, just needs a little more refinement and a specific direction, and it would be amazing.

I’m going to look more at the tradrack I think. But still leaning towards sticking with the ERCF just because I have experience with it now lol.

It has an included buffer, but I am using dryboxes with an included buffer. It just works, I have some more info over in the MK4 thread.

those are SWEET!

I really like that Tradrack too. Might have to start working on it. It also talks about being able to use extra ports on my M8P instead of having a separate board to run it. That would be the ideal scenario as I only use 5 of the 8 drivers right now due to the CAN bus

This looks so interesting, but it requires a stepper each cartridge, which adds to the price, and a custom board for the pogo pins if I understand correctly. But such a sleek, simple design.

Making assumptions here. Disadvantage of that is the added cost. Advantage is none of the other servo and changing belts and triggers, so easier to calibrate. I have asked a few times why not just drive each one, so I am excited to hear how they do out in the wild.

So far (other than the PITA of learning to print with ABS) the worst part of the ERCF is the servos. I bought the expensive one they all suggest, first one was weak and started screwing up in a week. Sent it in for warranty, they mailed me a brand new one. Last night I installed it, DOA. I bought at 8 pack of amazon cheapo’s for HALF the cost of ONE of the SAVOX servos. So now I get to deal with SAVOX warranty again. Then the kicker, I was cutting zip ties to remove the servo, and cut the wire to the servo. So hopefully that didn’t just void the warranty… :man_facepalming:

that sucks! sorry to hear!

It is what it is. Just the way things go around here. On the plus side, it is working with the cheapo servo and working MUCH better! Trying to get some other things set up and start another multi color print to really put it to the test. I have a 4 color one set up ready to go.

I have a hard time finding things to print. My printers are working the best they ever have, but my head says only print practical needed things, not flexi toys, LOL
