JJ's ERCF V2 Build

Ok I think I finally got it. We will see in a few hours.

Final of what I think was causing it. I was using a - value in X-Y contour compensation and a + value in X-Y hole compensation, between the 2 of those they were basically deleting the thin wall of the support structure. What I ended up doing instead was leaving the hole compensation and set the contour compensation at 0. Then I went under my filament and adjusted the shrinkage percentage just a little bit. The test parts fit snug but they do fit and I don’t feel like I am going to break anything putting it together. And the support structure came off cleanly.

Fun with slicers… isn’t really fun.

Sounds like you accidentally invented the open operation in computer vision again:

Interesting that fancy supports look mathematically like noise.

I just started mine as well!

You’re a hell of a lot farther along than I am LOL. I just completed the top hat print… That’s all the parts I have so far LOL. About to start the next print though! LOL I have a feeling I have SEVERAL days of printing ahead of me at this rate LOL

Please start a build thread so I can follow along and learn from you LOL

If you’re still having problems, some of the parts come up with errors when added. It’ll offer to fix them for you. Don’t “fix” them, leave them be. I opened a git issue to at least warn people in the readme, but it was rejected.

Good lord there are a LOT of parts to this thing LOL. According to the Printed Parts tracker I’m half way there LOL. Just switched from the Accent color to the main color and started a print. Hopefully ill get to start building this thing the in the next week or 2 LOL.

In other news the V5 has been running like a champ! @vicious1 did a hell of a job with this printer!!!

Video is crappy but it works lol. It’s a little fiddly to get loaded. You really have no view of it but it wasn’t near as bad as i expected it to be. Time will tell. But as you can see in the video it does work. Works better with 2 hands but I tried lol

Well I “think” I have it together…

It was not without struggle. But that was self induced. When running the test print I was trying to get the filament holes to be the correct size. What I didn’t realize was in doing that I was making every other hole way too big. I also ran a temp tower on the ABS and went with what looked the best, which turns out was too cold and caused layer adhesion issues. So I had to reprint a fair amount of the parts as I went along. But all in all it wasn’t a bad build experience at all if you take out the reprinting parts lol. The manual is well thought out and written. The kit was good. Really no complaints that weren’t my own fault.

One thing I will say is if you plan to build this you need a good file to clean parts up from the built in supports. I had just recently picked up this set from Harbor Freight and it worked really well…

Also I had planned to not run the ERCT Buffer, but it wasn’t until now that I realized that means I also don’t get the pregate sensors, so I will need to do some more research on that to be sure. If there isn’t a way to do it without the Buffer then I believe I will print it and give it a try. My concern with it is the Humidity here in FL. Even PLA can be a pain without drying and keeping it dry. That’s why I was going to use the auto rewind filament spools in a large dry box to feed it. From what I understand is the pregate sensors are real helpful with running “endless spool” which is a major feature I was looking forward to with building this.

I will try to keep more up to date here as I figure more out and continue on. I really hope to have it some what functioning in the next few days… But we will see how that goes LOL

Turns out yes you can have the pre-gate sensors without the Cotton Tail buffer. From the ERCF V2 GitHub if you change the branch to R2 there is a “lite” version of the sensor body. Setting that up to print now and hopefully that will get me what I need

Well next part is going to be a little delayed it seems. Power went out at 0330 this morning and last I looked won’t be back on till 1100 or so. Lost my print that I had running. So once power comes back on and I can get the needed parts printed I’ll be back on track.

Power company shows my power should be back on as of an hour ago. Well the darkness around here says otherwise lol. Had to put in a new outage ticket. Now says 1:30 this afternoon :man_facepalming:

I just ordered the same kit yesterday. How long did it take to get to you once you completed checkout? I may be a tad bit excited.

What are your plans for the toolhead? Adding sensors and a cutter? I’m currently running a Stealthburner on a V2 with the Galileo 2 extruder, so I’ll be running this mod GitHub - IRTrail/G2E-Filametrix: Filametrix smashed into the G2E. Because stuff matters. along with the Cotton Tail.

Tuning up the V2 now, should be printing parts soon enough.

I find it bewildering that this happens on a regular basis where you are. The only power outage I have ever experienced was in a little village in the black forest where snow and falling trees destroyed all three power lines connecting it to the grid, and that was a once in a lifetime happening.

I want to say it was right at 2 weeks

I am running a EVA3 tool head with an Orbiter V2 so not running the filametrix, I am going with EREC And I am still trying to find out about the Orbiter V2 sensor if it can be used as a toolhead sensor or not.

Also not doing the cotton tail. I live in Florida with 1000% humidity lol. So I am going to run filamentalist in a dry box

Go to their github and change the branch to R2 and print from there. Updated stuff that has some fixes

Shoot yesterday was nothing. Let a hurricane come, you can be without power for weeks and internet for months LOL

Weeks without power and months without Internet? I’m out. Have you ever thought about leaving the third world country you are living in? :joy::yum::kissing_heart:

Not a chance lol. It doesn’t happen often. And you’d be surprised how many great memories you can make with your kids when there is no power or internet to distract them lol
