JJ’s Full Sheet LR3 Rebuild

So How did you get in contact with them? I just tried a few places here and they sent me sailing.
I wish I could find somewhere like that, all the big boxes are about 80 to 100 for a 4x8 sheet.

Heat is only for when it dips below 65f here

But, yes. House and shop both have heat pumps.

We turn on the heat when the average gets below 65F. Maybe lower. We get a lot of solar gains from south facing windows and the house has pretty bad insulation, but it doesn’t instantly drop when it is cold overnight. I prefer being a little chili in the mornings to having it too hot in the afternoons. So we generally do no conditioning for a month in the spring and fall.

We are looking at a new furnace now and in my region, they are not cheap. Standard heat pumps have good rebates, but have to use a backup furnace at 30F or so. Cold climate versions can go down to 5F (which would honestly be 99.9% of the time). The backup furnace has to be able to heat the whole house though for those rare occasions the HP dies or can’t handle it. Gas furnaces are cheap. Electric strip furnaces work fine. You never want to use them (they use a lot of electricity). Your electric panel has to support them (which is going to be the real cost for me).

We’ll see where we end up on the electrical panel. But I am leaning towards the strip heaters and a cold climate, which is probably the most expensive option. And all the cold climate heaters have proprietary wifi thermostats, which only bothers me.

Its just a local cabinet shop that’s been around for years. I just call them and make sure they have what I’m looking for then drive down there.

Not sure if anyone on here is local-ish to me but here is the info just incase…

I get that completely. But being involved in the HA community will give you that chip on the shoulder for sure LOL

I would recommend the gas furnace over the heat strips for your backup heat.

My last two houses had gas furnaces for heating the house (no heat pump). This house, being all electric, has the heat strips for backup when it’s too cold for the heat pump to work.

I’m near Dallas, so we get cold enough for the heat strips to have to be used quite a bit… Last few days in the morning already.

Looking at my bills comparing last houses to this one, it was cheaper for us to heat our last 2700sq/ft home with the gas furnace than it is to heat our current 2400 sq/ft home using all electric. That includes the new house being 10 years newer with newer insulation and window/doors seals.

The heat pump works well for mid-temps.

I will say, I like it warm in the morning. I keep the house at 70f during the day and let it fall to 68f at night when we’re sleeping.

All this being said… gas is still fairly cheap here in Texas. And it’s easier to add heat strips in the future if gas costs get outrageous than it would be the other way around.

For those looking for plywood… Try googling for ‘plywood wholesalers’ in your area. You can also call a local cabinet maker and ask them where they get their plywood. Most of the wholesalers will sell to the public if the order is big enough.

I was watching a youtube video the other day and the guy went to one that’s near me. I need to go stop in their store and get some plywood the next time I need it.

Actually turned on the heat this morning. Was 68 in the house, kinda chilly.

Man yall keep it warm. I turned mine on before I went to bed last night just incase. Had it set at 64°. It kicked on once this morning.

Wish we could afford 68. Ours is 65 most the time. It is cold here in michigan right now. Yet i think thursday says 46, now last night was 11. Said this should be our january temp.

We are forecasted to get down to 31°F here tonight lol. Always fun with the high humidity. Not near as cold as up north but sure feels like it lol

We have ours around 18°C as well, most people I know have theirs on 22 or 23. Not good for the mucous membrane anyway. :stuck_out_tongue:

We pay $0.12/kWh off peak (7pm-overnight-1pm). So it would be the cheapest electricity. Natural gas is still cheap in CO, but I want my furnace to last the next 10-20 years and I don’t want to be burning gas that long. I would prefer the heat pump to be keeping me from using either though.

Made an upgrade to the dust collection on the full sheet LR3 today. Thanks to an unbelievable amount of help from @Michael_Melancon I now have a functioning valve on the dust collection!!! The old style blast gate I used would always get jammed up and never sealed. These 3d printed ones seal GREAT!!! And the addition of the servo just makes it super cool!!! I have plans to add several more of these as I finally get around to finishing up the dust collection runs to everything else! Don’t judge the mess lol. Too many things going on.

And using home assistant to automate it as well…

Looks good….Now come finish mine for me lol….

I’ll get to it one day I think

Also, that’s probably a bit too much credit given to me. But, glad you got it working. I’m still manually spinning my levers

WOW! Those work great, and the servo action is cool to see function.

They wouldn’t be working at all if it weren’t for your help so I disagree with this statement

They seal better than any other valve I’ve tried. And yes the servo is awesome!! So nice that I don’t even have to think about it. Just hit go on the jackpot and the rest happens automatically lol
