Jackpot2 board will not power on

Hi all,

Almost done with my MPCNC Primo build and having a blast. Unfortunately, hitting some issues with the board, and was sent this way when I reached out via email.

I’m using directly purchased / recommended parts wherever possible - nothing custom. Specifically, the Kastar PSU from Amazon and a Jackpot2 purchased directly from the v1e store.

Nothing to indicate it’s powered on when powered via PSU - no LEDs, wifi, etc. I connected it to my PC via USBC and get a green LED.

I’m newer to electronics, but using a multimeter and ChatGPT I compiled the following measurements:

  • PSU reads ~12V from the barrel

  • PSU reads ~12V from the wire adapter with nothing connected

  • Wires read ~12V when connected to the PSU (via adapter) but not the board

  • When wired to the board, terminals read ~1.4V. This is with nothing else connected but power.

  • I’ve also tried with the Nema steppers attached, but saw effectively no power then as well.

I’ve rewired a few times (swapping out the wires for new ones, reseating the connections, etc.) with the same results.

ChatGPT had me walk through a handful of measurements to find potential shorts, and it didn’t find any. However, well aware that I’m out over my skis here - and I know better than to assume its approach was the right one.

Any idea what I should do next? Happy to pull additional measurements and report back if that would help diagnose this.

Thanks in advance!

Zack

Very stupid question: Did you make sure not to switch the cables?

Do you have another power supply to test?

Any particular reason you chose a 12V PS not a 24V?

If you are trying to use the green terminal adapter thing you should throw it away and cut the plug off.

Thanks. I’ve been using that adapter but will try cutting the plug and going that way.

I got the 12V because that’s what’s linked. Figured I’d build exactly to spec using parts known to work, and make changes later if needed.

Alright, cut the cable and still seeing the same results without the adapter. Also tried swapping the cables (though I’ve checked this consistently) and that didn’t resolve things.

Can you upload a picture of it wired up please.

Then upload some pictures please of how you connected it. :slightly_smiling_face:

Woof. Grabbed my wife’s laptop charger and swapped out the PSU. Lit right up and I’ve got the FluidNC signal now. Thanks for all the quick support - much appreciated!

Hope you didn’t cut the cables…

Interesting, that is not very common.

With those adapters I have seen bad adapters, and I got a whole batch that had loose power cables, gave them a little bend and they worked fine after that.

I actually used the adapter piece in testing so as not to cut my wife’s laptop charger, so no issues there. For what it’s worth, there’s also a large capacity difference between the two PSUs.

The Jackpot amp draw is tiny, that is not the issue for sure.

If you order another power supply, I’d get a 24v like the one on the V1 store.
