Jackpot 3 needed for laser?

Is Jackpot 3 the only Jackpot that can run a laser?

Jackpot 1 and 3 have it built in, jackpot 2 needs a added module.

Oh sweet, I have a Jackpot 1.

Is the laser section in the docs still relevant to get started?

I’ll have a good search for topics and info, but please let me know if there are sorta go-to laser models or parts that people use.

I run a laser off of a Jackpot 1, the docs should be fine for that. It was a painless setup that way

Nice, what laser do you use and what do you think of it?

The Jackpot runs a NEJE E40 laser, it works well, but cutting isn’t its strong point.

I can cut foam. It’s better with black foam than the white, but there is significant melt out along the cut line. A needle cutter is better for planes, for certain, though my needle.cutter wasn’t good at all. I meant to build a better one, but never did.

That said, I’ve built a few from the available Flite Test plans, and they work well. The Flite Test planes are a bit faster than I’d call real beginner level, (having a Parkzone RTF, which is much lighter and slower as a comparison) but the repairs are super cheap, and easy.

Cheers, that seems to be the one most mentioned. Cutting would be a bonus since the CNC can cut, but the more I think about it, the more I’d like to be able to laser cut thin plywood, like up to 3mm or something with a laser.

Do you think this is doable with the latest model?

I have jackpot v1 running a J-Tech 64 watt works great

I think it is doable with air assist. I have an air pump, but it isn’t really strong enough. I have managed to cut some materials with the laser, with multiple passes. I believe jt would be fine if I connected it to my air compressor, with some real flow rates. The pump that I have just keeps the smoke off of the laser lens.

Cool, I think I’ll go for the same model then, w/ air assist. :+1:

I have found about 15psi for cutting and 2-3psi fot engraving works good for me
