First of all thank you to Ryan and everyone in this community for an amazing tool! I finished assembling the MPCNC today and started calibrating. I did some basic motion along X and Y axis and noticed that the home position is “moving” somehow. I made some basic gcode to move 100mm in X, come back to 0, move 2mm up in Y, to then end at home. I repeated this loop 10 times and noticed the “home” position is shifting. See the video here: https://youtu.be/O32GdIpgeC0
I stared playing with belt tension and didn’t see a noticeable difference. Any ideas?
Well look at that. I slowed it down and problem solved.
The issue started when i was trying to run a “wearing in” program and was pushing the speed up. What is the max speed you recommend for free motions (not writing or cutting)?
That’s kind of machine specific, and will probably change over time. You’re already testing it, so you know how fast is too fast. Run your code and drop the speed down some and see if it skips. If it doesn’t go up half way between your current speed, and the one that skipped. Rinse and repeat until you’re satisfied with the speed, or you run out of halves! This way, you break in the machine a bit, and get some usable numbers. On my lowrider I zip around at 2000mm/m, but I rezero between each project, so not sure if that will go back to the proper zero, pretty sure it does, that’s really not that fast.
