Help with LR3 Jackpot Setup

I don’t have any bits in yet as I was just getting the movement set up. Should I plug one of the broken steppers back in when I do this? The last one to go that is still in there was one of the Z axis ones.

Maybe.

If you run with the replaced steppers and never have a problem then I am curious what the deal is with those original steppers.

If it’s thermal overload, then you’ll get back to the same conditions eventually with the new replacements. It’s really hard to see how you could be getting thermal overload with the TMC2209s.

Have you modified your config.yaml in any way from the V1 defaults?

Like Ryan, I’ve never seen a stepper fail that wasn’t caused by me damaging it (e.g. I killed a couple by mangling the connector on the stepper body, killed one by bending a shaft being stupid with a pulley.)

If you did your own connections this is the issue.

You did not change the config so it is not thermal shutdown.

Plug in the new steppers with premade connections and it will be fine…other than you will need to up the current, but that can wait.

Yep.

I am more than confident that it’s something I did as it’s all new to me. I did copy the files from the download link via fluid NC when I first had trouble but that might have been after the first one failed, I’m not sure.

I have put one of the broken ones in the Y socket and tried it in the video. Hopefully you can view the file.

In the terminal type in $ss show us everything it says.

I pre-flash the boards why did you flash it again?

I was trying to troubleshoot and came across a post where someone had said to reflash it so gave it a try. I didn’t think the steppers were at fault until the second one went and I removed them.

Does plugging and unplugging while powere hurt the driver in the board he is using?

Definitely do not do that. Make sure everything is powered off when you plug or unplug. Having a loose wire can cause the same thing.

Does it work now with the new stepper?

Does each port work?

Yes the loose wires are what i was thinking killing drivers i had t h at with one driver twice before i found the problem

I have replaced all the steppers and its now moving as it should.

Just need to try and get it all aligned now.

Many thanks for your help.

Something isn’t adding up. Steppers are really really robust to any electrical issues you can send at them. They don’t really have any binding mechanical parts either. They could have loose wires, either internally, or the wiring connecting them. But I’m not convinced it is the steppers. And definitely not 4x of them.

The drivers are much more susceptible to problems. Or maybe the drivers are over heating and dropping the current (but I’m not sure the jackpot does that). Maybe the vibrating sound is jist skipped steps. If it happens again, try to get a video and post a link.

It’s the wire terminations. Crimping your own wires can be challenging.
We should have a permalink available to one of the good videos on crimping these connectors.
Once you learn its reliable. Before then, it’s hell.
