So, normally I have a good quality graphic to work from… but not in this case, I’m attempting to make a gift, but I can’t get a better version of the logo, than this (It’s for a prize at the event, but this is the only file I’ve got)
I’m wanting to carve it to about 100mm round (it’s going on a cribbage board), I can leave out some detail, but, want to capture the main features of this.
How would you approach this? I am really bad with graphics manipulation tools unfortunately. I was thinking of just trying to convert it to greyscale, and see what happens as a relief (but I’ve never done that) and am not sure how that will turn out, if it’s even worth trying.
pull it into svg editor like corel draw or inkscape and trace it.
Once traced, I would add the holes in a path along concentric circles around the outside of the logo for the cribbage pins
then decide if i wanted to do it in black&white or color.
*> Black and white, I’d export the svg to estlcam and v-carve 3 mm deep the black portions and fill with black epoxy. OR laser the black
If color i’d split into the colors and v-carve and fill them one color at a time.
Either way it would be 1/8” to drill the holes last.
I’ve done all of these options at various times and can be more specific on different steps if you need.
I attempted to convert it to svg, and bring it into estlcam, and it turned out “ok” … some of the finer details are lost in the test carve, but… I’m actually ok with that. I’ll likely run it on the cnc tomorrow or early next week.
