FreeCAD has been coming up a lot lately. Came across this video and seemed like it would help a lot of us get started.

MangoJelly is really good with the Free CAD tutorials. I haven’t gotten up to speed on this latest update but his older tutorials are solid.

I started using FreeCAD about 5 months ago , watching mango videos helped ,

The BIM and woodworking workbench are great if making cabinetry, ive done full tiny home layouts custom kitchen designs, transfer to tech draw than export as svg to MM and cut

have also designed a couple more complex parts that needed 3d printed,

can be bit over whelming at 1st learning all the buttons, and each work bench as different buttons

See, I’ve never even been in the BIM (what’s that?) and woodworking benches… -_-

BIM is for doing house plans, designing the shell of a house woodworking is for cabinetry stuff and you can merge files between work benches

below i designed shell, internal walls, windows etc and than designed cabinetry in woodworking and than merged all together

FreeCAD is certainly getting much better and the mango jelly tutorials are very good. I’d say that version 1.1 is definitely worth a look. There is also another YouTube channel called OffsetCAD that though is hard to listen to (at least for my old ears) it moves along at a good pace and is full of good tips.

These videos are really, really good. I am starting to understand where freecad differs now, I have more to watch as I am still not clear on a few things but I assume finishing this series is going to clear it up for me.

By far the best beginner CAD series I have seen yet and I only watched one…every minute of it.

Appears you’re out of date already!

Apparently a lot of backported fixes from the 1.2 Dev.

Usually, changes to that third point are not going to break functionality.

I thought Ondsel going under was going to hurt its developement, but dang it is going well now!

oh only just been released

I believe the guy behind Ondsel was, and still is, the guy driving FreeCADs CAM development.
After Ondsel shut down, there was some funding directed to a roll your own version.

Not something I need, but it’s nice someone made the effort.
