Fluid Dial (Fluid NC dial pendant by Bart Dring, using M5 Stack's M5 Dial)

I don’t recall seeing anything like that happen on mine. I can watch more closely the next time I use it.

Likely just me then. Thanks for verifying!

I seem to get it as well. Not sure if it is the same you are experiencing. I haven’t tested other axis yet. I did have a -100 show when I was jogging my X, real coord was around 200 or so. It stayed until I jogged again and hasn’t happened since.

Very nice!

Interesting, that looks like what I saw. Seemed intermittent, so might do some more tests tonight. I wonder what a theoretical [edit: cable length from jackpot to pendant] limit might be.

If you are meaning “jog movement” limit, I think I read the buffer can accept … either 12 or 15 jog commands at once and no more until the buffer has a chance to clear. I think this is in the Wiki somewhere?

I meant the cable length from the jackpot to the pendant. Probably quite long, but might test a shorter cable.
Jogging with the pendant is great, I love being able cancel it mid-movement!

Yes, I like that too. I also like having a wired, dependable interface that can do all “normal” job related things, including browsing GCode files and launching a cut job, without having to bother with wifi etc. At times the wifi WebUI interface is really needful. At other times this pendant is all that’s needed. I like having the best of both worlds.

I was reading through your thread and thought I would like to build a pendant. Then I looked up the parts and it would cost me $80+ to build one. The bad part is you have to order multiples of the wires and buttons. I guess I’ll wait and see if anyone offers it complete.
Thanks for all your work and writeup.

I know it’s a pricey little build. My way of looking at it, was that a BTT SKR and BTT TFT touchscreen are (I think, perhaps) still more than a Jackpot and the materials to make this pendant.

In my case, my M5 Dial, with shipping, was $47.54.

I bought 10 of the momentary buttons with LEDs, for $8.14, of which I only needed 2, so I have 8 to spare.

I bought 5 of the 4 pin Female Jumper to Grove (4 pin Conversion Cable), for $16.95, of which I only needed 2, so I have 3 to spare.

I already had some wire, PLA, and various other nicknacks on hand.

So my total was $72.63. And if I subtract the extra (unused) buttons and jumper wires from the total, even less.

Do you have links to the parts you bought anywhere?

You know, I sure would have thought I had posted links earlier in this thread, but I may not have!

Here are links:

Those are 2.54mm pitch. If I’ve been following this thread correctly, 2.0mm pitch connectors are required.

That’s more than $10 cheaper than the Amazon price. If one can wait for the extra delivery time, sounds like a way to go.

Notice in the Wiki, Bart originally wrote “I think” on the item. He was looking at an Amazon listing that does not tell the size at all. The Aliexpress.com listing does tell the size, but Bart likely never saw that. The Aliexpress.com listing not only matches the name brand exactly, but also even the product photo matches exactly. It would seem the Wiki needs corrected to say “2.54mm pitch.”

CORRECTION ADDED LATER:

There are two connectors types on these. The Aliexpress listing is describing the black pin housings on the far end, while Bart in the wiki seems to be talking about the white connectors on the near end! I did not realize this until later…

You have a pendant- measure them directly.
Measure from the center of first to the center of the last pin then divide by the number of pins.

I don’t even need to measure to know they are 2.54mm, but I measured them anyway. (There was no need to open the pendant. The pack comes with 5 sets and the pendant only needed two.) Confirmed. 2.54mm.

CORRECTION ADDED LATER:

There are two connectors types on these. I measured the wrong ones! I blame drowsiness. The Aliexpress listing is describing the black pin housings on the far end, while Bart in the wiki seems to be talking about the white connectors on the near end! I did not realize this until later…

You sure they are 2.54mm? Because with my M5dial, all the 2.54mm connectors I have won’t fit as they are way bigger.

Never mind, I got it. It was a combination of not fully pushed in connectors on the dial and my yaml gpio pin numbers. There are a couple conflicting screenshots with pins 13 and 14 exchanged so I was trying both. I then found the jst connectors not fully pushed in and when I tried it I had pins 13 and 14 reversed. Changed them back and all is good now.

Hey Doug, did you have to change anything in the firmware in VS code before you compiled and uploaded it? I looked back through your build posts and didn’t see anything but i might have missed something. I am getting the NC message and can’t figure it out. I have checked my wiring and connections and still get it. I found these settings in the system.h file.
