It’s cheap dependable extruder. Single drive also, so you get less artifacts (more consistency due to less backlash/runout). And Sovols are what they are. I have a SV06+ and it’s been fun to mess around with, but I wouldn’t depend on it.
About 6 months ago I picked up a QIDI X Max 3. For the price I am really happy with it! Also helps that I bought it for 1 big job I picked up and my first delivery of parts paid for the printer!
The customer was really happy with parts I printed and they are going to have me do every batch moving forward, so I will likely buy another, or possibly the next gen of it.
I’m planning on building a MP3DP soon. I wonder how big you could plausibly go with one? I would love to 600mm3….
We need to move this to a new topic so we’re not polluting @Chinstrap777 's threat.
I’ll elaborate if you create a topic to explore your thoughts on a large format MP3DP build.
It’s worthwhile to go to reprap festivals or community makerspace exhibit days.
Amazing what folks are doing with their various machines.
One of my former makerspace colleagues has a student team working on printing skin and tissues, maybe eventually organs. “all you need to go with your printer is a $10M research hospital.”
QIDI makes feature rich printers, but I shy away from printers that require you to use a “fork” of Klipper. I learned on my K1 Max that having to workaround so many issues just isn’t worth the money on the printer. QIDI has probably been the best at addressing quality control/design issues from what I’ve seen though.
I haven’t checked out the MP3DP much, but it’s challenging and expensive to build an accurate printer with a large build volume like 600^3. Another issue most people run into with extra large format printers is just how freaking long it takes to melt that much plastic in a small hotend. I’d recommend a pellet extruder just to save the cost of filament for large objects. You can buy PLA at $3-4/KG and make your own colors.
But I’m definately interested to hear about your experience once you have built it and gotten some print time.
