Finishing Pass the Answer?

Hopefully these two things will make a huge difference. The MDF strut plates will help with twist and the better endmill should drastically reduce the load.

I never mind trying new things to find a solution! I think thats part of the fun is finding what works. I get a little bummed when it feels like I dont have anything left to try. Im glad I have somethings to upgrade/change.

You never told me! My Froschkönig was plywood as well… :scream:

German plywood is better? Wouldn’t surprise me.
The stuff you find here in the big box stores is scary stuff. Even the “good” stuff.

Say what. :eyes: Mdf is a wet noodle when I compare it to plywood here :hushed:

When twisting, even the thin stuff?? MDF is glue and sawdust it should always be more rigid

Plywood is glue and alternating layers of shaved wood.

There are different types of ply also. I have a 4mm one that does wiggle like a noodle and one that does barely move.

I think I got the wiggle one for my strut plates unfortunately. I’ll have to swap that first. My XY plates are baltic birch which is very rigid from what I see.

I will add that I trust plywood more than mdf for twist. But I have never test a similar sized piece. I made my LR strut plates from fiber board lined with whiteboard and chalkboard (it was a good thickness and readily available).
