Exotic car - 3D modeling for fun and stress relief

This is nowhere close to perfect. Just something I did to get my mind off of burdens.

Wow Doug. I don’t think you are going to win any supercar design awards but your Fusion 360 skills are very impressive. Well done. :+1:

Thanks! Speaking of winning awards, although I’m not foolish enough to enter any supercar design contests with this entry, I am going to enter a “phone charger” version of it in a Printables design contest on chargers. Here are some pics I’m sorting through, while the car body finishes printing:

I did something like.that when I was always losing my wireless charger, but it was the fuselage of a plane, with the phone as the wing.

Of course, I lost it

Man, I am so boring! Here’s mine from a while ago.

I do have something on my sketchpad though, which may or may not come to fruition!
The winner of this contest will have :-
a)gears
b)a print in place hinge
c)three colours
d) 5000 downloads!

Yours is nice! And more functional, by holding the phone up.

Ironically perhaps, new iphones have a thing called StandBy mode which, when charging them horizontally configures them as a highly customisable clock/info screen, so the old vertical stand is a bit dated now.

Nice. If it relaxes you then that’s all the reason you need to keep going. The fact you’re learning and improving with a tool is a bonus.

I don’t see any difference in what you’re doing than people painting, knitting, whittling, cooking. Whatever.

Thanks for sharing, the thing I like best is when people share what they’re working on, I find it motivating and inspiring. it’s a bit of a leap of faith to share a personal thing like that too so kudos.

I hate that setting!

If my iPhone is charging, I’m most likely asleep.
If I’m asleep, the last thing I want is something being on and illuminated.
When I wake up and look over, it’s horizontal and I can’t see it anyway.

To each thier own, I suppose.

I would imagine you already know this but there is a setting for it.

I personally like it but only at work on my desk! lol

It’s my favorite new feature!!

It dims itself into a Red display that is similar to a regular alarm clock. You can’t tell it’s on with your eyes closed

It’s when it’s standing on it’s edge in landscape mode

This picture makes it look brighter than it is

But it’s way better for me to actually be able to see what time it is if I wake up in the middle of the night without having to roll over and pick up my phone.

I use my phone as my alarm clock, so I haven’t actually had a clock display in my room for a very long time.

I do like the setting, but it also should require the phone to be at an angle similar to the watch nightstand mode. If you’re laying it flat and it’s still activating, then the setting to turn it off is your friend for sure.

Mixed for me. But it works well enough, and I no longer run a clock/alarm on my bedside stand, so something it better than nothing (for when I’m laying awake at night wondering if I should just get up :grinning:.)

I have found I sleep better if I don’t have a clock I can check at night. I guess that is why the setting is optional.

I’m too curious if I happen to wake up to know if it’s close to my alarm going off.

So not having to roll over and actively do something to check the time makes it easier for me to go back to sleep

I use my phone as an alarm clock on my nightstand. There’s an app on android called ‘Night Clock’. What’s really nice about it is you can select the color and brightness. The only info on the screen is the time and when the next alarm is set for. I chose a dark purple color and have it set fairly light. It produces hardly any light out of the screen, yet I can still read it without putting my glasses on.

My charger keeps the phone horizontal but tilted enough to still be seen from the bed.

And, here’s a version for the phone on edge for standby mode.

So, I finally got the two versions uploaded to Printables, and got them entered into the design contest.
I posted about it over here: Exotic car-inspired wireless phone chargers - Printables contest!

But here’s the skinny:

I am the same way too! Until all of this I didnt even know there was a standby mode lol. But at home my phone is on the charger in the window sill so I cant see it anyways. We have a regular clock that has a “projector” that displays the time on the celing. One of my favorite things!

I don’t usually use an alarm. My kids are noisy enough. I don’t think my son has stayed in bed past 7am his entire life.

Putting my phone out of arms reach also helps with my sleep. No desire to peruse the forums from bed that way.
