Restoring to the old grbl should be possible, unfortunately it is no longer recognizable as grbl.
Too bad, a new board could be the solution, it is no expensive. But I think it should just work, right.
Why does it finally not work?

I again donât even understand the problem.
Sounds like they wrote Estlcam firmware to the control board and now want to go back to grbl?
Thatâs what it sounds like to me.
Just flash the board.
Sounds more to me like youâve flashed an unsupported controller and donât know how to flash it back.
How is that Christianâs fault?
I canât help but think that this is a case of pebcak
The ârestoreâ only restores your last firmware you flashed. If you flashed several different ones there is nothing that can be done.
It would also help if you ran what you want to say in your native language through a translator, might make it easier to understand where the problem is.
Okay, where is that card called Estlcam? If you use Estlcam as a controller, you program it via the CAM. I donât think there is an option to program something wrong. And the controller should be able to be overwritten or reset. Did you try resetting it? But then again, youâd need a completely different controller and not one that is designed for Estlcam.
Can you post a link the board youâre talking about?
Iâve never come across a board that canât be re-flashed over a serial connection so if there is one that canât that would be good to know.
Yes, I get your Problem, but why would Estlcam restore firmware that is not Estlcam? You can restore old Estlcam settings with it and swap between two profiles, but why would it restore different firmware it does not support and canât write? Get it?
Estlcam canât write firmware itâs not using, it can write its own firmware and restore old settings. You want another firmware? Connect your board to a computer and flash it from there, but not Estlcam.
Looking at your post history, Iâm confused. I have a hard time understanding any of them. Youâre not using a V1 machine or supported controller, which is what this community is for. Yes, we do go outside that box for support sometimes. Many people here use Estlcam for CAM, but very few use it as a controller. I donât know if itâs a language barrier or what, but youâre speaking a bit harshly about Christian, who is well respected in this community. You bought a cheap controller of an unknown, likely unsupported, brand, are flashing non-supported firmware to it, and are surprised when something doesnât work. It sounds like you are new to CNC and you seem to be taking a quite difficult path.
If you built a V1 machine, like an MPCNC or Lowrider, and used a supported board, like the Jackpot, you would find a lot more help here.
Iâve seldom encountered a controller that couldnât be flashed, though if it is an atmega 328P or a12/2560 it may need a boot loader flashed before arduino IDE recognizes it.
A better approach would be to provide full details of what model you had and why you were trying to flash it.
We donât usually work with 3018/3040 controllers here.
I appears that no one here (myself included) has any experience with restoring GRBL firmware. If the board previously had GRBL firmware (did that Yofuly?, none of my boards have come with firmware), the Estlcam controller Restore button should restore it from the (C:\ProgramData\Estlcam\VâŚ) âbackup m328.datâ (for 328 based boards, 2650 for Megaâs?) file. That file is a backup of whatever was on the board before Estlcam first flashed it using that computer.
If nothing was previously installed, backup.dat appears to be a backup of the first Estlcam install. I have a v11 backup.dat that is almost 5yrs old and Restore worked fine. I got back to the present by opening my last saved configuration file. While it didnât appear necessary, I reprogrammed the board and confirmed that my backup.dat remained unchanged.
It can be frustrating at times, but anyone using Estlcam has to be okay with Christian not replying to emails/forum posts and working things out on their own when forum folks cannot help.
Very good and clear concrete post, it embraces my position the restore button. After pondering I still found out that V11 was my first flash with estlcam, and how wonderful with all the settings of the event. Press the button, and everything was put back exactly, as if the board came out of the box.
Chritian did mail me, even 4 times, and emphasized that the restore button is not there for nothing.
Nice, learned something again, actually it is all there, search and you will find.
Thanks to Christan and DAVE L
Hello, finally found Gsender as controller for cutting and engraving. Lightburn for laser technology and as icing on the cake, Vectric as Cam.
I also started to build a larger router, 3 axis belt drive, with a 32 bit grbl board. 50 x 60 cm is big enough.
Machining is addictive as many say, my old lathe that I work with a lot, now looks jealously at the cnc happening. But that is not going to happen.
Good reading comprehension, and a lot of searching and trying has not yet led to breaking a workpiece or milling cutter. So we keep going.
