EstlCAM 12 on Linux

Too bad Affinity does not work on Linux.

Hmm, maybe it does: So installierst du Affinity Photo, Designer und Publisher V2 unter Linux – und Affinity by Canva (Affinity V3) - Linux Content

/edit: Affinity 2 does not work, 3 works like a charm (I wanted to not use that one, but eh, here we are).

Shortcuts work, saving works. Everything works. Pretty dope. Guess I have to go through the whole process every update now (takes only a minute though).

Does Estlcam work as controller from linux thi way now?

It should, but there are mroe steps and I didn’t need it

Estlcam10 ran fine in Bottles to generate gcode… it’s even in their Bottles AppStore. But it can’t flash its firmware to a CNC controller to be used as a controller for the CNC. Christian, himself, responded…

This made me hope there was a breaktrough…

He does have further code to enable the functionality, I just can’t test it with that computer.

 For me, on 2 separate PCs, a Win 10 and a Win 11, am seeing…

  • Ctrl + S works to save project. Yay!
  • But… Alt + F key combo, then Enter key does NOT trigger File → Open menu item command to show open project dialog. Using EstlCam 12.155A :poop:

With the installation I provided?

Oh, I found your problem now: You can zap around the menus with the shortcuts but not actually open them. Right, I can’t do that either… Never occurred to me to actually press enter, I always click stuff like an old person…

Several of us may take exception to that :heart::heart:

I bought a new computer and it came with Windows 11. I hate it, too many ads, too many interuptions and it is very slow to do anything.

I decided to give Zorin OS 18 (Linux) a go, so I downloaded it and ran a try out version. I was so supprised how good and fast it is.

All my software programs that I have been using in Windows I can find equivalents or even run most of the windows versions with winapps or bottles (Including Estlcam)

There where two programs that I couldn’t get to work only and as I use them offten I looked into making a virtual machine. That was fairly easy and now I can do everything and very fast, so I dumped Windows altogether and and reclaimed the space Windows took up for the Linux system.

Now everything is so much faster and easy to do with no ads at all, no updates happening when inconvenient.

One program that works in both system is Inkscape, and that is very useful for producing files for Estlcam, super easy to do tracings as well from JPGs or other image files and save as SVG and open in Estlacam,
