I just saw that Bart and Mitch have released an alpha version of Fluidnc for the S3. Has anyone with an S3 tried it yet? It’s good to see they are now actively working on it.
I saw there has been some activity on that front. I’m not sure what boards exist to even test that. Maybe the MKS DLC32 MAX?
If I was not so close to the jackpot3 I would just hold off.
You should be able to put it in the JP1 and run the new firmware right?
no, pins are different. Different shape
Well that sucks
but I bought an S3 a while back specifically to test making FluidNC compatible and never went back to it…
And I got a genuine one in one of them fancy-ass boxes they put them in… I’m almost afraid to use it… it’s so well protected in there
Yeah I remember you saying you had one. But then you got super busy and I forgot all about it lol
Chip Series Comparison - ESP32-S3 - — ESP-IDF Programming Guide v5.0 documentation Basically the same price gets you more IO and memory. Not sure if the processor is much faster or if the added stuff is things we don’t use.
The biggest reason I was initially looking at it, was the increased RAM, and getting us out of that low memory warning problem area.
Things have progressed quite a bit, so we aren’t in as much trouble… but I’d still run it over the DevKitC if I had the option.
Extra IO doesn’t hurt either
Maybe there’s a Jackpot-integrated and a jackpot-modular.
There’s other interesting stuff out there that could be shoehorned into a Jackpot V1. Like say… a certain RP2040-on-an ESP-WROOM devkit form factor. That would run GrblHal really well on a Jackpot V1. Interesting times.
Edit- and SKR Pro 1.2 can run GrblHal as well. One common firmware base on all the controllers? Jackpot V1 runs GrblHal just fine with the stock ESP-32.
Ohhhhh, interesting. How nice would that be. GRBhal work with the lcd’s on the skr?
Have not been able to do much with my testbeds the last few weeks, but it’s on the check it out list.
They’ve now announced beta support for S3 on Discord. And it’s included in the wen installer.
There’s now a pull request to merge the S3 code into main. I’m guessing this will become a 4.0 version? I would definitely be cautious installing this release until it gets some thorough testing.
I am feeling good about 3.9.9. I would not mind staying on that for a while. It brings in the work you guys did on the webui, and I have had a lot of cut time on that one.
And it’s much worse than that. there was a separate PR for changing out the Web Server with an async server, and the guy doing did some maybe questionable stuff that is also rolled in. Also I think some other USB support, etc. etc…
The next one is going to be a big change, and I don’t know if they broke any WebUI-3 stuff in the process or not
Yea, I’ve been following some of it and it sure looks like a mess. I found it interesting that Mitch had to update WebUI v2 to get something to work.
Well, at least with a Jackpot V1, I can put it on a separate ESP32 for testing when the time comes. After the 3.8 debacle, I’m not in a particular hurry.
