ESP not booting over external power

Just got 2 new Jackpot controllers V1.2.1, and using my 12v 6a external power, the esp just flashes the red light slowly onboard (~1.5 sec on/off cycle) and it never starts up wireless. I can plug it up over USB and it gets solid red light, boots just fine and operates normally. Both are doing the same behavior. Is there something I’m overlooking in the docs?

Can you take a photo of you board wired up please?

Couple of things to check:

If you have the esp on the jackpot you need to apply power to the jackpot BEFORE plugging in a usb cable or it won’t work.
Is there any chance you have 30 pin esp32s not 38 pin?

These are fresh out of the box from V1E. Power is applied externally - the ESP won’t even boot up unless I connect over USB either after it’s gotten external power, or powering up just the ESP alone over USB.

Got it working, but still need to dig into the actual cause. Switched to a 12v 3A power supply which works. There shouldn’t be an issue using a 6A power supply (which does test out good and even works on my current MPCNC) with the jackpot is there?

Shouldn’t be, current is pulled not pushed.

What’s the make and model of the power supply out of curiosity?

It’s a Kastar 12v 6A N18061. Believe this one came with my burly electronics kit years back. Still runs the burly (using a Rambo) just fine which is odd. (Follow up - yeah, it’s the same one I got from v1e - same model linked on amazon from the old Burly parts pages.)

I test every board before it leaves here on external power only, wifi connections included.

I am going to guess the power supply wires are colored wrong and you might have just had it hooked up backwards. I had a year or two of unconventionally colored power adapter wires.

It was actually a bad power supply. Put it back on my Burly and it was running fine and then after a few hours anytime an axis gets moved it resets the entire board.
