Diagonal Movement

Just thinking out loud. I saw this YouTube video the other day. I thought the cnc machine was cool. But I noticed that it cut all of its finishing cuts on a diagonal angle. I was wondering why they do that. The only reason I could think of was that it would use the strength of both X and Y motors at the same time. Or maybe to keep the X and Y wear and tear even. In any case I was wondering if we should ask the Estlcam developer if he would add a diagonal movement option for the 3D cuttings. So I guess I am asking here if it is a “good idea”. Or is it a waste of time? Is there a good reason for the machine in the video to do that that might apply to us?

i can try to make guess. as example, you have heavy mechanics and your feed rate is limited by 100 mm sec by x and y. if you will milling diagonally you will have feedrate 141 mm sec against surface. also maybe cutting wood with an angle may produce better surface quality then along or perpendicalary

Well it doesn’t hurt to ask. So I sent Christian an email asking for the feature in a future version.

Yeah… I was thinking in the 3D milling. It is limited to X direction or Y direction. Or circle motion.
