CYD Pendant : max RJ12 cable length

Hi,

What would be the max recommend RJ12 cable length for the CYD Pendant powered buy the controller on the gantry? I feel like buying a 16ft, but maybe it’s stretch out a bit?
10 feet is ok?
But I feel 10 feet would not get me where I want it to be…

If you power your pendant with controller 5V power then you will have issues with long cables.

Better for long cables is to put a DCDC converter in the pendant and run the converter from VMOT power, then run your 5V out of the DCDC converter into the CYD.

This lets you go much longer. Eventually you’d need to drop the data rate if it’s a really long run.

Or you can ditch the cable and use ESPNow.

Hi All, (Update: How is this different than the websocket implementation mentioned below? ESP-NOW is radio-to-radio protocol of its own. So the flaky-ass wifi network you’re running can die, and the FluidDial still works. ESP-NOW, great idea but I have enough experiments in my project already, I don’t want to add another layer.

Maybe for later, I’ll keep that in mind!

Note that there was a very affordable DCDC converter in Ryan’s shop. I will link it later by editing this post unless someone else beats me to it.
