Thanks. That is a fair pushback, you can now download the desktop app or use it directly in the browser with no account.

This is fair too, I can only speak to my case, and I’ve been very careful on that since I develop web application everyday, and in europe too, so for Furrow I just only store the email of the user.
I initially thought that wouldn’t be that much of a problem and for my cnc workflow don’t have to move between different pcs my settings and my bits could be a nice feature, but clearly I was wrong. So I created standalone desktop apps and you can either use it in the browser with no login.
@James_Keillor , do you know if there is a file size limit? I tried uploading an assembled Nutcracker that I downloaded from Thingiverse and it just hangs with a site not responding error.
I uploaded the same file to @Tokoloshe ‘s version and his was able to load it, so I’m not sure what the difference is between the two tools.
Me neither, Claude did it. ![]()
It shouldn’t matter because everything happens in the browser. How big is the file? Basically when you choose to upload the app will iterate over the entire model checking the slices, but the page itself is unresponsive at this time because it is busy doing the background work. If you share a link to the file it I’ll give it a go as well.
As for the difference between the tools, @Tokoloshe and I both had the same idea. There was old Autodesk software that accomplished the same things but it hasn’t been maintained for a long time (over 10 years iirc). They probably perform the same basic functions to be honest. I did add some tweaks and features based on a specific use case I had as well as some things other users have suggested. Just use whichever one gets the job done for you.
@Tyler_Sorensen & @federicovezzoli thanks! I actually have a student just graduating who will lose their Autodesk Education account but he has a portfolio project he is designing in Fusion which he intends to use for University entry and he needs to find an alternative. I will suggest he takes a look at both of these options.
EDIT: Oops, double post
for an alternative to Fusion check solidcraft
Any update on the dowel placement fixes, the model that is missing dowels on some pieces can be found here https://www.printables.com/model/181166-charizardpokemon/files if you need a file to test with.
Honestly thought I pushed the update but obviously not haha. I’ll double check it today and get it live.
Thanks for the model link, I’ll be able to test it with your model to see how it performs.
Ok, it should be live. It likely isnt perfect but the aim now is to have 2 dowels per layer if possible. It will attempt to extend dowels vertically so that it minimises the overall number of dowels while maintaining 2 per layer. You can also (somewhat) edit dowels . I haven’t tested this feature extensively and I want to make some improvements to it. Currently you just click a dowel and it will choose a new position. I would like to have different ‘edit modes’ where you can move dowels around, choose where to add additional dowels etc.
I need to spend some time cleaning up the workflow so its more step-by-step than just dumping a bunch of features at the user.
