Complete build list for V3 Low Rider

I am completely new to CNC and do not own a 3D plotter. Does any one have complete build list of components that I’d need to get from V1 Engineering and a list of what I’d need to get from my local hardware store, please? I’ll be using a Kobalt K7TR. I suspect that I am asking ‘how long is a piece of string’, but any advice will be most welcome. Thanks.

Add an SD Card:

Add a set of LR3 3D Printed Parts & metal XZ plates?:

What size rail are you using?:

Which LR3 Tool Mount:
Kobalt K7TR
Add a 3D printed control board and screen box:
SKR Pro and TFT E3 V3
Add some 1/8%22 Single Flute Endmill/s?:

Add Precut YZ plates?:

$724.97 USD

Hello Paul, and welcome!

If you haven’t already I would check out the docs LowRider CNC V3 - V1 Engineering Documentation

That will give you a real good idea of what is involved in the build and you might see a few things along the way you haven’t thought about yet.

One Suggestion I would make is go for the Jackpot controller. Its a lot cheaper than the SKR and I personally like running the machine that way better. All of mine originally had SKR boards and I have since switched them out to Jackpot boards!

If you go to the jackpot board then you wont need the addon screen box for the printed parts.

Do you already have the Kobalt Router? If not you might want to make sure you can get your hands on one before you pick that tool mount. They were tested by Lowes but Kobalt decided to discontinue. If you can get one that’s great, if not then I would go for the Makita, and pick up the 1/8" collet from the V1 store.

Other than that it looks like you are pretty much covered for parts that I can tell. Someone will come along and double check me

You will need some other things such as a table of some sort to run the machine on (Ryan has a parametric table that you can cut with the LR on the ground and put together) and you will also use the LR to cut its own struts out.

Might pick up a few extra endmills. Learning can take their tole on them (I speak from vast experience here)

Thanks Jonathan,

I’ll check all the suggestions out and revise my build list.

Absolutely support the Jackpot recommendation. I vastly prefer FluidNC over the Marlin on the SKR Pro. If you have a strong affinity for Marlin then your mileage may vary.

I’d also recommend picking up the recommended lube, the V1 assortment of 1/8” inch end mills and some 1/4 endmills (I love having the 1/4” option.) If you’re planning on a lot of drilling, the Kobalt trim router accepts an ER11 collet which greatly increases the ability to use appropriate bits.

A few key spare parts might include endstops and extra nuts and bolts.

You will also want to plan for dust collection. Personal opinion is that a Dust collector is far superior to the vacuum option. But you’ll want something.
