Just forget about that project…
If anyone is bored and looking for something to build, check out my project instead that is definitely NOT a handheld CNC

Unfortunately, in cases like this, money usually wins more often than who is right.
I don’t know anything about what’s going on, but it wouldn’t shock me if legal reasons stop him from giving details.
However, don’t let that stop you from gathering the public and spreading the word if you feel the need.
I’m sure the public can wager a guess at who might lose the most business over this being out there, and whether or not they might be the ones behind it.
Maybe some YouTubers etc that are big in the maker community etc could bring light to it.
Honestly, I had no interest in building one of these becuase I just don’t have a use case for it… but now I kinda want to just because of this.
I understand the company point of view. Anytime something enters the market that MIGHT infringe on your IP, you have to challenge it. Once you let one slide, you set a precedent that makes it hard to fight in the future when it does.
It just shouldn’t be this easy for them to win when it doesn’t.
Well, this seems to be a shitty moment for the Compass project, but hopefully not the end.
Guessing @camchaney may not be in a position to make a comment here.
I hope others publicly sharing the now pulled down repo doesn’t result in Cam being burdened with additional B.S. damage claims.
Seems kind of shady if the lawyered up company is too scared to make a public statement defending crushing an open source project. Shame that company isn’t able to win on execution, features, and competitive pricing for their Customers.
well… Cam did his part and unpublished his repo.
Said company would have to force Microsoft to unpublish all of the forks on Github if they want to close that up… or go after every person individually
My wife already spent all of my money… they won’t get anything out of me ![]()
I also hope that this is not the end.
Does anyone have the instructions on how to calibrate?
I got the V1 build instructions and purchased one of the first kits, but never got around actually building it.
And now that the YT-Videos are gone I don’t know how to start.
I think I remember that rh process includes sliding the compass on a bar from left to right and repeating that, but when I remember correctly there was a specific length in mm that the Machine needs to be moved horizontally.
I don’t have it ready yet, but if no one remembers it would be pretty pointless to complete the build.
Without proper calibration a cnc is useless.

Consider starting a fresh topic with questions you have. I’m pretty sure many here skilled in the art of CoreXY and gantry machines will try to help.
Thanks,
I created a new topic for that.
Fingers crossed that all these copyright claims are settled soon in Cam’s favour.
Thanks for this.
Patent infringement. Copyright is a different thing.
I’m sad for Cam and livid at the other router company, which is now forever poisoned its reputation for me.
It’s settled now. Cam agreed to fold. Probably because it was too expensive not too.

Would be nice to find the bom and assembly instructions of this non handheld cnc anywhere too. Anyone can help?
Let’s all please be careful along this path! I really do not want them trying to bring down Ryan’s home here!
