Can't Reconnect to FluidNC network after computer shutdown

I finally have the Primo up and running and have been able to do some cutting. But I have had some problems with the WiFi network. My laptop connects OK and things work fine, but if the computer loses the WiFi connection, I can’t reconnect without turning off the Jackpot and turning it back on. This happened when I left my laptop alone for a while and it went to sleep. When I tried to reconnect, it gave a message that it can’t connect to the network. This also happened when I paused a job and the laptop went to sleep… I couldn’t resume because I could not reconnect to the network. Is there something that I have to do to reconnect to the FluidNC network without rebooting the Jackpot?

It should work fine I use it like that all the time in AP mode.

If you want to give STA a try, it will work if you have a good signal to your home network. You can use the web installer to configure STA mode.

If that happens, try with your phone, just to see.

I recently learned (using ESP32 for a different project) that my computer sucks at connecting to ESP32 AP mode. It works occasionally but very unreliable. I’m not sure whether the fault is with Windows or the dongle, but AP mode works flawlessly on my phone.

In the early days I had concluded that FluidNC AP just sucked in general (and I was confused as to how Ryan was able to use it all the time with no issue). I used exclusively STA and it was fine.

And then just recently I determined it was my computer or dongle. Maybe my phone is more tolerant or more aggressive or who knows what.

Worth a quick check if it happens again.

Larry,

I’ve had the same problem when my computer goes to “sleep”. Here is the fix: Go into your settings for the Network adapter in Device Manager: Turn off the setting “Let my computer turn off this device” or something like that. I have found that some of the drivers don’t restart well after sleep.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried shifting to STA mode, but I guess my home network signal is too weak in the workshop. I couldn’t connect at all in STA mode. I had had the mode set to STA->AP but the board never connected to the home network. I changed to just AP mode. I also changed the Windows settings to not let the computer go to sleep. This may not be the elegant solution, but it does solve my immediate problem. Now I am just trying to become more familiar with the FluidNC web UI.
