I have 2 printers, quite basic. In one of them I already achieved that the bias was less than 0.07 in all planes as recommended by Ryan. In the other I am printing the model with the skew corrected for the first time. And yes, it is the skew values that have to be entered at the top.
I went ahead and printed these two parts on my P1S and they came out and fit just fine. I think I may just ignore my existing skew and print the parts.
I pulled the trigger and bought Calilantern.
It printed last night I hope to check and adjust this evening (will post when available), but this has gotten me curious if this forum topic has driven a significant bump in the Vector 3D sales
Worthwhile investment for sure - if only to confirm I’m good or to make any necessary adjustments, but I certainly never would have heard of it if not for here.
Dude should be giving @vicious1 a kick back for sure. He has to have seen a noticeable bump in sales in the last few weeks lol. I actually just got an email that he made an update to it as well.
I have to admit I was pretty skeptical of paying for a model given the free and open nature of most things 3D printing.
But given the quality of the guide and Excel sheet that comes with it. Can totally say it’s worth $12 on my time.
Went from 750 to 950 score in 3 prints dialing in skew and size.
Is it going to have a meaningful impact on how good my LR4 performs? Unlikely.
But consider it an added cost of building the whole thing and it’s certainly worth it. Plus now I own it to use when I build a Voron next year.
The Calilantern printed well and was fun to measure.
The Excel sheet is quite good.
Overall I’m quite pleased with the tool.
My first score was 500; not awful, but definitely worth adjusting a few things.
However, after reviewing the recommended firmware updates for Marlin, I hit pause.
I’ve been planning on doing a Klipper conversion on this printer and making changes in the printer.cfg file is so much easier it is probably worth pulling that change forward before dialing things in further.
I agree with everything. I found it excellent. I even thought the measurement method and the calculation sheet were very good.
One thing to watchout for is don’t let you slicer put a joint on any surface that will see a caliper.
Don’t ask me how I know
I’m sitting on 9 I am thinking with a little work it could me a Sauron Mace (my ZX is giving me fits)
Oops, never mind.
Thought this was the Calilantern, but I didn’t read carefully. Here’s the old CaliFLOWER for $6, but doesn’t have all the useful Z skew calculations.
