Maybe I missed it somewhere. But I have done the crown test with a pen. Just getting ready to hook up the Makita router… I’ll probably do a test cut of that…but what do you do to calibrate?
With a 3d printer, there are lots of “cubes” and other things to print/measure and ensure results.
Is there some standard cut for CNC machines to use that already has a bunch of standard tests setup?
If you use my kit or the recommended parts there really is not anything to calibrate. If the crown looks good your build should at least be pretty good. After that you calibrate by making parts with know dimensions and seeing how deep/fast you can push your build and still get tolerances that are acceptable to you.
Remember to use proper finishing passes before you try and measure anything.
I’ve always been fond of pen-plotting/lasering rulers with my machines… those are equally as important to me as the “MPCNC crown” and give me confidence that my machines are calibrated and operating properly.
