I am nearing the end of my first edition of my own laser engraver so I thought I would share the progress.
The build in the video below is a 350mm square work area but I intend to go much bigger with full length 1000m extrusions and a wooden front panel. The video shows my first movements after wiring up the steppers and endstops. The laser module is a NEJE E40 and I have yet to decide how I want to wire it up. From what I see, I think it is best to run a separate power supply to it with a heavier gauge wire than the TTL signal in order to ensure its providing enough current to the module.
I am using an MKS DLC32 with FluidNC. I also don’t believe the laser output on the board is rated for the same amperage that the module would require. But I don’t know that for sure. Wiring up the laser is going to be the next and final step on this smaller build before starting on the larger form factor.
