Bozo Estlcam question

Estlcam trying to cut out edges of my material

So I created a 12 inch x 12 inch x 0.5 inch object in fusion. Made 2 small pockets to test machine some more.

Brought that design into Estlcam and after setting tool, confirming units, I try to “create CNC program”.
Estlcam wants to not only cut the two pockets out, but wants to spend time cutting along the 12 x12 inch edge.

Easy way to convince it that that edge can be ignored as it is already cut?

It also doesn’t seem to translate the units properly from fusion- I do have both programs set to inches.

TIA!

It sounds like you are bringing it into estlcam as a STL. That will bring you into 3d machining and take a LOT longer. You need to bring a DXF into estlcam and then set up your cuts.

Intersting- and yes, I have the same issue as that other poster who can’t justify a fusion sub.

Can I get dxf through on shape? I know my designs will be public but don’t care about that. No one will care about my silly stuff.

And if I change to on shape I assume I can get an f3d file in there?

Thanks again!

You can get the DXF from fusion with your hobby license. That post I linked is where I explained to him how to do it all with screen shots.

If you want to move to Onshape you can export a .step file from fusion and upload it to Onshape. But you will still have to do the same procedure to get a final sketch with all the geometry on it that you need to export as a DXF

Ah. Was hoping to skip that as it looked like one more thing to have to learn.
It also looked like he may have given up and just sent out a zip to be converted. I’ll give it a go tho

Its not bad at all once you learn the few steps. It goes pretty quick depending on how many features you have.

I asked him to upload his file so I could give him an example of how to do it from the exact file he was working on. The steps are the same for any job though so as long as you follow them you shouldnt have any issues.

You are right- it works pretty well. Is there no way to select all of the features by dragging a rectangle over them though? I’m going to have a lot of things to click on. : )

And thank you so much for the quick help

I’m not sure if that will work or not. And I am not home to be able to test it. Best I can say is give it a shot and see if it works.

Didn’t you just explain this for me last week

Sure did. And I’m glad I did. Made it easy to just link it here to help someone else.
