The LowRider 4 changed my way of building skis. I have been looking for a long time for a CNC long enough to work with ski length and narrow enough to fit my basement. The LowRider 4 is definitely what I needed and I recently included a laser module.
As requested in an another post I am providing more details regarding the Dragknife base cutting.
I use a Stepcraft Heavy Duty Drag Knife with Martor 52 blade at the topmost position (offset 3.03 mm). As it is a PITA to have to insert the knife in my Makita because I need to change adapter size and unscrew everything I created a 8 mm to 65 adapter that fits in the Makita mount of the LR4.
It is critical to keep the base down with a vacuum table. As I did not want to build a full fledged vacuum table I built one that I can easily add and remove from the LR4. It is 3D printed and uses 20x20 modules that can be combined in one direction. I use a 2 m long for the base. I also have a 40 cm long for cutting the cork sheet. You can find it here: Vacuum table
To cut the base I cut with 0.4 mm steps. I use the dragknife dressup available in FreeCAD CAM module.
