Adventures in ESP / WROOM

So I bought an ESP board after searching the forum and many topics, looking specifically for one that had ESP-WROOM-32 written on it as that was the takeaway - it needs to be WROOM.

Found a listing that looked correct, ordered, waited two weeks, received one with just ESP-32 on it. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Wondering if I set up the firmware on the jackpot board I’ll be able to tell if it’s a working one?

Was gonna follow this handy guide from Hamish:

If I manage to get setup like in that guide and FluidNC is installed and looking ready, would that confirm the board is good, or would it need to be tested with the full CNC setup/stepper motors/everything installed in the board?

That definitely won’t work. It only has 30 pins. The correct version has 38 pins.

Arrrghgh, thanks, off to order another then

It should have Espressif on the chip at least. This is a picture of the official Espressif one.

Thanks, I couldn’t find an Expressif one, but maybe this is ok?

Maybe? But I don’t have much confidence in it.

No worries, I’ll try it, they all seem to look pretty similar tbh. Aside from the Expressif logo, if there’s no other markings or specs I should be looking for other than ESP32-WROOM / 38PIN / CP2102 I guess it’s pot luck
