I just purchased a HY HuanYang 2.2kw water cooled spindle+VFD for my LR4 and I am wondering if anyone has made a spindle mount for 80mm ø yet.
I suppose I could rework an existing tool mount but my CAD skills are not super great.
Thanks

an 80mm spindle isn’t recomended for the lr4. It can cause some issues. A quick search about the topic can get some light. We all make the mods from remodeling the mesh/stl files. I dont think there is an 80mm spindle mount already.
2.2kw is some kind of waste imo. I dont know exactly what your use case is but an 0.8kw or 1.5kw spindle is plenty. I run one of my others cnc with an 1.5kw spindle and i dont think i’ve found one job that needs the full power of it @110v.
just for reference
Also: as a constructive criticism. Try to keep just one thread so we can follow everything in one post. Its harder to track down any previous info, for example, we already talked (in the one you asked about the 69mm monts for the dewalt) about 80mm spindles vs 65mm spindles in your previous post and what mounts worked. (Makita mounts are 65mm)
I used to be a big advocate for the 1.5kw spindle on the LR3. And I tried running it on my LR4. I dont use it anymore because there was no way to get the spindle high enough in the mount to have the collet in the same spot as it is with the palm routers. It hanging lower for sure cost me a LOT of performance. Ryan tried and tried to tell me, but I had to prove it to my self. Now I run a Kobalt with the ER11 (no longer available, but the carbide3d with the ER11 is great and only $60 last I checked). No more flexing and I can run much better feed rates. If you are running the router slower like you should be, its not any louder than my spindle was. If you are running it real fast then yes it is louder.
All of my experience is with a 65mm spindle. But I 100% agree with @CesarH that the 80mm is going to be way worse.
We already talked about the carbide routers, the issues with the 80mm spindles and even the exact model of vfd he needed to.

Yea sorry about congesting up the forum. I’ll try to keep it organized. Ok I am taking your advice and just buying the HY 0.8kw spindles and VFD.
Part of the reason why I want a spindle is to control the RPM with more accuracy. Thanks for your help!
Hmm, yes well I will take both of your advice!
I’ll just get the 0.8kw HY spindle. Thanks
Not necessarily, you can get the 1.5kw. but take one with the 65mm diameter.
Ok that’s a great idea haha. I think I’ll get the HY VFD and the Zhonghuajiang 1.5kw 65mm spindle. That should work well.
Yes. It sure will. Have fun building it.
Thanks mane. I am already having fun with the build.
Glad to hear.
Just for fun, what kind of work are you planning to do?
