3D relief Carving questions

In another post some of you put your hand up to better test pro ,

have any of you been testing ?

been playing round with it for last 2 days , the one thing i cant get my head around is final depth

how do you work it out say stl is 22mm what depth would you put in

If the STL is 22mm and it’s only “single sided”, you’d use 22mm (or less if you want to make the carve shallower than the model).

If the model is something like a head, where you’re really only engraving the front half of it, you’d use 11mm instead.

Hey Oz

thanks for reply , that’s sort of the way i was thinking,

eventually i did work out why i couldn’t get my trial file to look right

threw it into creality print , file had some really little pieces sticking out the back and also poped up saying needed repair, once i deleted them repaired file and reloaded it into MM it previewed right

i did stuff up my radius in tool which stuffed up what my step over was, hence all the lines but hey 1st trial, old saying practice makes perfect ,

def some cool awesome software you have all developed :

That looks really good for a first try Terry. Where did you find the STL? I’d like something similar with Pheasants on it.

hey britt

cheers

found it on here

as said pay to thrown them through another software 1st, another file i tried came up with issues , guess you got to expect that from free stuff ah ,

Thanks Terry,

I found a couple of files with pheasants. I imported them into OrcaSlicer and repaired them. Then I imported them into MillMage and set up the relief carves. They look good in the MillMage preview. It’s too hot (103ºF+) to work in the garage now, so I’m not sure when I’ll get a change to run them on the LR4.

Is it possible to keep the dish but make the pheasants come out (higher z)?

You would have to modify either the stl or the depthmap to do that. I’m not sure how to do that.

we got the complete oppersit here , being getting -3 deg celuis mornings , down to 5 deg by 3pm and im in the warmer part of NZ

they look good

started watching some vids on that other day , yeah ill leave that for now till i get the carving part sorted
