Z Probe Help More

I have everything running great and doing some nice 3D projects. I have the Z probe connected and it works but I am reluctant to try using it because I’m not looking for a bit dive into my stock or having the cutter 10 mm above my stock. I want to use the WebUI macro. So two questions:

  1. Do I need to make any adds to the Probe section of the Fusion Beta 3 post processor if I decide to use the probe?

  2. Does it work without making any Gcode changes. With paper, I set the Z and then manually zero it. I assume I DO NOT zero it if using the probe macro.

Thanks

I use the probe before running gcode. I record x and y offsets from home and zero x and y manually with the workpiece corner because i rarely ever place it at the home zero position. Then hold the spatula/metal probe sheet down with your hand on top of your work piece and move x and y to get the bit over it then probe the z. Once all axes are zeroed, start the gcode job.

Do you use the WebUI macro or just jot the z down until it touches?

Before getting the z plate i would eyeball it. It worked ok until i started v carving and then offsets were noticeable. Now i use a macro so it drives z until it hits the plate. All you have to do is hold the plate flat after you make sure the clip is attached to the router bit/mill. I’ve missed the plate or clamped the painted part of the mill and the gantry then lifts off the rail, and it becomes a frantic hit the clip with the plate to make it stop or pound the estop. Practice a few times before it matters and you’ll be fine.

Also I’ve heard stories of forgetting to remove the clip… remember to remove it.
