Z axis stuttering

Hi Everyone! Hoping for some help trouble shooting my LR3. For awhile now I’ve had some shuttering in my z axis. When it goes up or down I get a shuttering/shaking type motion. I took a video to try show it but can’t seem to upload it.

It has been doing it for awhile but it hasn’t effected cutting until recently. I’ve been breaking bits and having problems with cuts the last few days. Not entirely sure if it’s related or not. I’ve attached a picture of the most recent miscut.

So far I’ve tried lubing the lead screws and checking grub screws. Which were tight. Not sure what to do next.

Is it both sides? Generally this is one side.

Check the motor electrical connections. If it is the side away from the control box, check that the connection to the extension wires is solid, and that the crimps are in good condition.

Hi Dan, it is only the side closest to the control box

I would still want to check the electrical connections to the motors. Almost everything else will replicate when you try to move thinfs by hand.

Is the beam still attached to the plates, it are the screws maybe loose?

I’m wondering if it might be a bent lead screw? When I move it up and down I think I can see a very slight wobble.

Thoughts?

So videos cant be uploaded to the forum, but you can post a link to youtube, etc. So the picture is quite a story there. I just checjed your activity and it seems you have had a fair share of problems. Were your components self sourced or bought from the store? Were your steppers large enough? Guys is this the board that it is recommended to remove something for better contact? Did you check if your steppers were hot to the touch when it happened?

I’ve had a few issues yes but with the huge amount of successful run time I’ve had, I’d say I’m doing pretty good. Probably 4-500 hours if not more.

Everything bought from the store, including my SKR board.

I’ve now ordered some replacement lead screws and couplers to see if that helps.

That’s a rather rough estimate, the difference being 496 hours. :yum::sweat_smile:
