Plenty of room for you to join us @RockinRiley!!
I am thinking about it, I have never ever printed you though
Very very interested in that Cnc version!
Have they thought about a distrubited approach where I get like 5 parts and make a bunch of those and mail them somewhere and then someone else does other parts, etc, and the. They assemble and go out, a true manufacturing processes?
We have some makers that are local to each other doing that. A few that have shipped parts but that brings the cost up quite a bit. Don’t be scared of TPU. Its not that bad once you figure it out. And worse case I will print them and ship them to you, or find a maker in your area that can print them for you. If I am not mistaken, one of the admins on my team lives in your state and will be part of the beta as well, so that might work out well.
If you do not still have my number I can get it to you! Would love to talk to them!
We are getting very close to the next alpha build before it gets released to the beta team.
I just printed out some tests with foaming TPU for the cushions (deluxe edition instead of the regular TPU they are typically printed with). Amazon.com
So far so good. I pulled it out of the bag it tested at 14% humidity but I left it in the dryer for a while just in case. It printed well using the guide. I printed at 0.38mm layers, 260c temp, 50mm/s (they say up to 60). Printed with 20% infill and it feels great. Might be able to go less for softer but I think that is a great place to start.
Interesting that the hardness is based on temperature. I guess that makes sense for something foaming.
It feels drastically different from regular TPU. This stuff is COOL!!! I think this is what most people think TPU would feel like before they ever try it. Regular TPu is still pretty solid, this stuff feels way more rubber-like.
With something softer, I wonder if durability is a concern?
So far, just like TPU it seems crazy tough. Layer adhesion is insane. The only thing I would worry about is sharp objects but having a nice soft cushion seems worth it. Siraya Tech Flex TPU Air Filament User Manual
I printed it at 260, so 70a seems about right. I could always go colder to make it a little more like regular TPU.
I tried some of the TPU Air for the very first chair I built way back in December but never tried it again. Have a spool in the cart now to give it another shot lol. I do wish they had more colors than black white and green
I need some onshape help. I am stumped. Exporting a 2.5d dxf is not working.
Notice the two prongs, there is a line missing there if I just do a face DXF export.
It should look like this.
Now the issue is that the second correct drawing, is actually doubled. When you use the “Use (projection tool)” it projects both sides of every feature. So now we end up with a doubled DXF, deepnest does not like that.
Do I just let it be doubled or am I missing something?
Any ideas??
This is how I ended up with 2 seat bottoms on my first one lol. But it was only that one part. I did export as one DXF though from your layout part and then moved everything around in MM
Yeah, I am afraid of the consequences of a double drawing. I can manually select all the edges but I am not sure how well that will hold up to parametric changes.
I guess I just manually select them and see if it breaks. I can’t find any free plug ins or add ons, everythign that claims to batch export dxf’s is expensive.
From your layout, I selected the big outer square to start a sketch, then for projection I just drug a box over top of everything, then deleted the 4 lines from the big square. After exporting I loaded into millmage and got rid of the outer box from the initial sketch, grouped each piece so the holes would stay and used the nest feature in the beta, that’s where I got the second seat bottom but was easily able to delete it. Deep nest never works for me ever, so I don’t mess with it.
Who knows what cam programs people are going to use though. If millmage group selects the top layer only that can obviously cause problems, and if deepnest shows them as errors I can only imagine what other random programs will do.
One segment at a time, hope it stays parametric. Gotta do it correctly or this will keep causing issues I am sure.
Oh I 100% agree with you! Was just letting you know what worked for me lol. Good luck sir!
I have a few hours a week, a Bambu P1P, and a 4x4’ lowrider v4 that needs some calibrating. Still using Estlcam V11 and fusion 360. If you are in drastic need of beta testers, feel free to add me to the list.
Not in drastic need, I think we are pretty good with the amount. But if You want to join I am all for it as well.
