Who is using a 1.5Kw spindle

Wondering how many people are using a 1.5 Kw spindle? Doing my first build. The spindle arrived today and it’s a bit heavy! Has that posed any problems for others? Maybe upgrading to 9mm wide GT2 belts could help a little? I have all kinds of GT2 belts and pulleys I could work with here from other projects.

I mostly work in aluminum plate so when ordering the spindle I got the 1.5 Kw for not much more than the 500W kit. I already have a VFD from my big manual shop machines so saved on that and put it towards the bigger spindle. My logic was that I could slow the spindle speed way down (8000-24000 rpm spindle) and still have some semblance of torque left to make proper chips. Seemed like a good thought on paper when ordering, but now that it’s in my hands I think the weight could be an issue.

I searched the forum and a couple folks mentioned the 1.5Kw spindle but without much elaboration on their experience with it.

What are others experience with this?

Not many. It’s too heavy for our cnc.

I wondered. Definitely realizing that now that I have it in hand. Now that a I have it I will keep it for another project but I may give it a whirl just to see how it turns out.
