Anyone know where we can find 3D relief carving models that work in EstlCam? I’m looking for a sitting lion for my fireplace project among other things. The black and white scanned images I think work best if I am correct. Comments or links to websites selling these?
Can the admin please add one more item to the forum, namely “Other” to include discussions like mine, talk about different bits, how to create relief drawings, laser cutting images, et al, that these great machines can do. It’s great that we talk only about the machines but we need a place to share what we did after the builds and advice for those things too.
You’ll want stl files, not a black and white image.
Here’s what the 3D carving process generally looks like:
Advice section: talk about different bits, how to create relief drawings, laser cutting images, et al
Things you have made: we need a place to share what we did after the builds
Random or Off Topic: other
The Advice section is exactly for posts like these. You’re not fixing your machine (that would be troubleshooting), you’re looking for advice on how to use it.
Thanks Ryan. I thought it was a way to simplify things a little. Put the poll instead of demanding a change. Usually bad netiquette and rude. Thanks for keeping an open mind on the poll. Mike
Thanks Jeff. I’m not just looking for advice on how to use it. I want to share in both directions instead of being told how to do something
Exchanging ideas is vastly different from getting advice. Thanks for the advice though. I learned a little more today and now have to find stl images for my project. I discovered Thingiverse is a great source and some other sources too. Great talk.
As I learn and grow, I want to share things like wood finishes, techniques for joint creation and stuff that isn’t machine engineering. Just suggesting a different section for that. Thanks for your previous help. It helped me a lot. Mike
I think of the advice section the way Heffe does. Give and take. Ask for advice or give advice if it is machine specific. Also, “Things I have Made” as most techniques cross machine boundaries or blend multiple. Lead with pictures and follow with detailed info and be able to have a conversation about it.
Hi Ryan, First let me say that you have done a great job of designing these for people like me. A big kudos to you for all of this. I’m only buying direct from you because you deserve it. Full support for makers and inventors like us. Per your comment, I can see that. Just thought it would be nice for a non-machine based discussion. aluminum mold making, finishing different woods, suppliers of materials unrelated to the tools. Like I said, not trying to make waves, sometimes it’s really hard to locate info sometimes and I like to find it without having to ask a question someone will have to answer. Or a question that has been asked many times before. That has got to get old. I’m a self taught type and that’s part of the fun for me, at least until I get stuck. Thanks
