I have been looking at building the MPCNC for some time but finally decided to do so. But before I start, I have been trying to find out if it makes sense to put together a parts list myself or buy the supplied kit on V1’s shop. The only sticking points I have found so far are buying the hardware (bolts and nuts) and the control board.
I have been using Boltdepot.com and the lowest I can get the hardware price is around 55 dollars with shipping. Any way to lower this?
Does it make sense to go straight to the full RAMBO board for a beginner? I plan this to be a CNC and laser engraving machine so would I need the extra ports of the full board to make this work?
If you plan on upgrading to dual endstops in the future (highly recommend that), you will have to get a new board that supports that feature. As for being a “beginner” Ryan makes it easier by pre-flashing the boards and supplying the correct wiring harnesses to get the job done.
I think buying the kits from Ryan is more of a time/trouble saver - unless you happen to have a lot of the more expensive component on hand, his kits are the way to go (IMHO).
Thanks for the input. I think i will go with the prebuilt kit and mini rambo board for convenience. If i want to upgrade to dual endstops ill have an excuse to buy another controller board and use the old one for a 3d printer
Also I must say that I am impressed and grateful that the bundle is actually cheaper (or the same) than buying all parts myself. Its a nice surprise.
