I’m assuming it doesn’t since nothing is listed as mentioning them being included. Also is there any functional difference between the roller and non-roller limit switches? Just curious due to the price difference.
Based on forum posts lately, dual end stop wiring does not include the switches. In addition, if you wire the switches like is typically done, you will need about 1m of two-conductor wire and optionally male Dupont connections on one end of that wire for each switch. The wiring kit is six-conductor Dupont extension cables (M/F) where four conductors are used for the steppers and two conductors are used for the limit switches.
Someone else will have to give you feedback on roller vs non-roller limits switches.
So Id need this end-stop wire from the v1 shop?
Is that 1m you mentioned per end stop or total for both?
So for maximum flexibility when building a big rig and for the tidiest connections with a normal sized rig, the length of the extension/splice wire for the endstops should be a few inches longer than the wire that comes out of the stepper, and that length is not a fixed thing. It will vary depending on the wiring that shipped with the stepper. I know the steppers Ryan sold me when I built my Burly were hardwired to the stepper and perhaps 30" long. Most steppers I see these days have a cable with a 6-pin JST connection on one end to plug into the stepper and a 4-pin female Dupont connection on the other end, and these vary in length.
Ryan says of the cable in your picture:
One wire will let you splice in 2 endstops easily.
He is figuring that you will cut the wire in the picture in half providing two 14" cables where the bare ends solder to the switches, and the Dupont ends plug into the harness. While this will certainly work, it means you will only be able to “use” about 12" of the wire that comes out of your stepper as part of your wire run. Any remaining wire will need to be bundled and put somewhere.
So I’d buy four of the wires in the picture if you are building a big rig or want a tidier construction, though two are all that are necessary for most rigs. An the worst thing that happens if you buy two and want longer wire is a bit of solder to extend them.
I wasnt planning on going super big. I was planning on doing an 18 x 12 work area.
Hey @vicious1. Souljasam made reference to a part in your store I’ve never seen before. I thought I just missed it, but in going back and reviewing, this part is only in the “everything” list and does not appear on any of the lists for the machines that use endstops.
The rambo comes with it’s own wires, the mini doesn’t use them, and I am working on getting custom wires for the SKR but have a note on the SKR page that it does not come with endstops or wires.
So I’ve been giving a bit of bad advice here and on a couple of other questions. I don’t remember any endstop wiring when I purchased my Rambo, but it has been awhile. And at one point (awhile ago also) I purchased an endstop kit from you. It came with the switches and some fancy wires with Dupont connections on one end and female spade connectors on the other that provided a no solder solution. I noticed the kit and those wires were gone, and assumed that everyone now had to roll their own connections between the harness and the switches now.
I never sold and endstop kit, the stuff you are referring to is the included components with the rambo.
Wow. I missed the boat. So Souljasam, if you are purchasing a Rambo from V1, then endstops and wiring do come the board. Sorry for the confusion.
I’m actually planning on going with the SKR. @vicious1 So with the SKR I should buy these?
How many do I need? Trying to get an order quickly set up now that the extra belt has come in stock.
Also does the limit switch type matter much? And if I understand correctly i need 4 limit switches? 1 for each side of the the x/y?
Four limit switches. Two of these Endstop Plug wires will do the job, but your wiring might be tidier if you purchase 4 of them. It depends on how you want to deal with the bundle of extra stepper wire.
@vicious1 I just ordered the Rambo 1.4, Screen and a few pieces of hardware I need, what wire kit will I need to order for the steppers? I plan on using the endstops and am confused if the Individual or series are wired for the endstop and stepper
Just to be crystal clear to hook up dual end stops other than buying direct wiring harness everything else (switches) is included with the Rambo board?
The board has wires and endstops, that matches up with the dual wiring set I have made.
Thank you sir!!
