RMRRF is coming quickly, so I am getting thay ZenXY back into shape.
Open Sauce is also being planned. I’m getting the logistics and applications worked out for that show.
LR4 for RMRRF
Simba Chair (same as It's getting there... The Chair)
Broken exhaust bolts on lawn mower
Way too many other unfinished projects to list
“Current” projects means what am I working on right now at 11:39 pm because I’ve almost run out of day!
I’ve just finished some Contract admin for one of my Son’s in Law. (Is baby sitting their dog a “project”?)
My desk
Their dog
Now I can get on with drawing bits for the boat dashboard (Yellow is existing)- I have four weeks to prefabricate all the bits, and wire as much as I can before carrying it half way across the world in a suitcase.
Currently on the other side of the desk is the little Garmin hiking GPS I am converting to a dashmount, and fitting a 12v to 5v converter to power it, and charge the iPad we use as a map.
Note the buttons on the GPS were perished, but 3d printing works a trick (will be black when complete)
I went to give some nice feedback to the eBay seller who sold the little circuit board, only to discover that they have closed their account! Oops!
Dusting off my old laser and getting it going on my new LR4:
2nd try at the physical design of a mount came out much better - may still need a 3rd revision since it still needs a way to mount the driver board. But then I started researching if there are any better driver board options - or if I just want to go with a newer updated module all together. Probably just going to get what I have going again for now but didn’t have time to make progress on it this weekend.
And may not for a few days because it looks like USPS is finally going to deliver the package I ordered from Ryan and was expecting last Thursday with parts for a ZenXY. It seems USPS felt the package deserved a brief vacation in LA and PHX instead of delivering it on the day they said they were going to. But it’s showing out for delivery today and all the parts are printed and a fluidNC 2 channel board has been tested on my eggbot and should be ready to go. So hopefully that will start coming together quickly.
Also just started planning on a new needle cutter for the LR4 - thinking about two versions - one that mounts directly in place of a router/spindle and one that can use @DougJoseph’s kinematic mount (which is what I’ll probably actually use myself.
And the LR4 itself continues to be a bit of a project - still trying to figure out why I’m getting funky cuts when moving towards Y min where it looks like tram is off since the cut isn’t vertical…but when cutting towards Y max it seems fine. Which leads me to believe it’s more feeds and speeds but slowing things down doesn’t seem to be helping and neither does adding a finishing pass…so maybe it is mechanical. Dug out my dial indicator to start doing some test measurements but haven’t had time to actually jig it up and take any measurements yet to try and figure out exactly what is going on.
In less dusty projects…my ELF II recreation has been pushed all the way off my bench due to needing space for the LR4…here it was just before that indignity:
The main system is functional - but I started building up some expansion boards to give it more capabilities and only got as far as the diodes on the first board before the LR4 started dominating my project time. The ELF will probably be back on top of the project stack soon though - we’re already having triple digit days and that means I’ll be spending less time in the garage and more time at the bench. Though…the ZenXY will probably be a mostly indoor project so that may delay firing up the soldering iron as well
Starting to feel a little anxious I don’t have enough projects to keep me sane…may have to start looking for a new one to add to the list soon
It’s not CNC related but this will measure the water depth in a 10 foot deep underground tank and report the results to my phone over bluetooth using the RemoteXY app. I’ve got the wiring figured out, now comes the part with the steep learning curve, programming the esp32.
At the moment, I’m making a self-designed electric spinning wheel for my mother. The e-wheel is almost finished, only the brake adjustment comes to the other end and the rubber band turns into a gt2 belt. Next up is an automatic herb irrigator…?
Well it’s boat season here so I have the dock in and boat lift setup. Now the boat just needs to get finished lol.
I had some audio issues last year and I never had time to add another amp for my sub box and foam floor project so it’s that time now !!
Also had a seat to wheel interface issue while reversing late in the season and I hit a rock. So I put the spare on.
My poor lr4 is full of amps speakers a 3D printer that is working now. Finally dialed in my PCFR filament after the klipper install.
Still working on the same project I started in January. Making a small end table to go over the edge of the couch. The woodworking part is done. I just need to weld up the frame and put a finish on everything. What has taken so long is I didn’t like the original plan I drew up in my head, so I over-thought it for a few months. And then spring sports started up and I haven’t had any time to go work on it. I could probably finish it in a long evening if I could get one of those to myself. Maybe Thursday? But only if it’s raining. If it’s not raining, I need to mow.
I need to build a table for my LR4. I have all the parts printed out and electronics installed. I just need to build the beam and a table now.
I have a new CYD pendant to use with my MPCNC or the LR4 when I finish it.
I’m taking a bit of a pause to clean up the messes I’ve made for all my projects. On my desk, I still have a breadboard with an early version of my wireless pendant and another one when I was investigating WLED to run lights under my LowRider. Tonight I was working on my basement. A section of it is an utter disaster from building my pen plotter. My new workshop is a mess as I move things between it and my garage. At least that now has power and wifi so I can get my LR3 out there. I still need to run more outlets and lighting and build a work bench and storage and yea.
So, I’ve got a bunch of things going on. I need to finish the lighting and frame for my pen plotter so I can start another project. Research lately has been for how to build a basic, inexpensive combat robot, triggered by the event Ryan posted about happening at RMRRF. That seems to tick a lot of the boxes for things I find interesting.
