I need another garage to free up some garage floor space… Mine looks like I got caught in the crossfire of explosions at an engine shop, a woodworking shop and a computer recycler. Maybe a welding truck, too.
Oh, and the not-soon-enough-to-be Ex wants me to sell the house. Too bad for her (and me) that in current market, it isn’t worth what is still owing on the mortgage.
I lost half of my garage for 3 ton of Pellets for the Pellet stove, chest freezer, extra fridge and the pantry. The leftover pellets get moved to the shed in mid-spring, and the bikes move back into the garage. I don’t think I will ever get it back.
im going to spend this weekend dialing in my printers to make sure they are ready
How many colours do i need? and 1kg of accent colour enough? i have 20kg of black or something stupid like that, just only 1kg of most colours i think…
Mine was a bit more, but I reprinted most of a core and all of the braces. I used about 1.75kg of black and maybe a half kg of red… But I haven’t broken the seal on the third spool of black I bought for the project.
I’m considering putting in a shed on the back property just for the garden equipment to get it out of my shop. I’d get back ~100sqft.
Best thing we ever did at the last house was putting in a storage shed to clear room out of the garage. The little 10’x10’ metal ones you can buy at the big box stores are fairly cheap and go together pretty easy with another person helping.
I could fit a 270cm x 140cm table in the second room of the workshop which is technically shed… If noone tells my wife I can pull it off! I want to CNC doors.
Can you give us a ballpark cost of the kit without including 3d printables? You no longer have the cost of the kits for the LR2 online since its sold out. If you can’t yet I understand, just trying to get an idea. Is there some sort of mailing list for when these kits will be available for those that have been following this thread in anticipation? Have you identified the controller that’s going to be used so it could be sourced from somewhere else in the mean time because of supplier constraints?
I think that the supplier issues with parts is a big part of the reason why the LR3 hasn’t been released yet. Making sure that the hardware falls into a reasonable budget, or at least knowing what that budget is. The low cost of entry for a V1 CNC is one of the primary appeals to it. No point in a 3D printed machine that costs what you can get a faster, more rigid machine for.
Any of the control boards that you can get LR2 firmware for will also work for the LR3. So far as I know, all of the beta team are using existing boards. I suggest that you can look a tthe marlinbuilder releases page, and if the board is supported there for Dual LR firmware, you can trust that it will work for the LR3. I’m using a Duet 2 Wifi for mine, but had it hooked up to an SKR Pro 1.2 for a while.
Like the LR2, the LR3 has a few flat milled parts With a 300x300 bed, the current set of milled parts could be printed, but of course pre-release some of that is subject to possible change.
The LR2 kit was around $256 plus the flat parts for $85 (Internet Wayback Machine). You would still need to print the parts and add SS tubes and some kind of table. All in your probably in the $600-$700 range. The prices in the shop are competitive and support the creator.
Ryan is very value minded, I would expect he would try and keep the LR3 cost as low as he can but I have no inside knowledge whatsoever of future pricing.
I’ll throw in that I made my LR2 by printing (like on paper) the dxf and then bandsawing out the milled parts. Hand drilled the holes. Worked well enough to get it running and then I used the LR2 to cut out nice milled parts for itself. Bootstraps or something.
I have a back burner project to make a coreXY printer with an MDF sandwich holding the motors, idlers, rails, etc. in place. The plates are too big to fit in the MPCNC so I’m going to make them with templates, a jigsaw and a drill press. Once I have something more than some OpenSCAD files to show off I’ll post in OffTopic.
If the proof of concept is promising I’ll finally finishe my LR2 (or 3?) build and make some proper plates.
