Hello, working on starting a MPCNC build and I already have a Dewalt 660 and a Chinese spindle- HXKJ-GS52-400W. What would you choose and why?
There have been several topics on this forum that have had a head-to-head comparison between a spindle and either the DW660, or the Makita. Spindles in the 300W to 500W range lose compared to a router…not enough power, more chatter, and other issues. Here is one such topic, and there are a couple of others.
Thank you
With the dewalt get some hearing protection it’s like a teenage demon child of a shop vac…good router but it’s very shrill.
Yeah even with hearing protection the 660 is obnoxiously loud, I’d go a different route.
If you can find a real spindle that would be the way to go. Most of the cheap ones are just a dc motor with a collet adapter bolted on. There’s going to be a lot of stick out and runout with that. Real ones will have the collet chuck be part of the shaft and the shaft will be hollow.
