haven’t been able to do any fun creative stuff in a while, despite a few projects being in queue….
my life of late has been ruled by auto repair! everything seems to be breaking at the same time and I’m tired of giving all my money to mechanics…

Modding my quad-kite handles for more direct input (saving $70)
Also designed and printed a holder/winder for the handles and lines (saving $30)
And i just received my new kite to replace my Revo exp that had a slight mishap ![]()
Still need to assemble and try it…
… and maybe I can repair the old one (revo carbon rods are expensive af, I’ll see if I can find shorter/cheaper ones -_-)
EDIT: Just assembled it, I think I’ll glue some of the rods together for ease of assembly (the rods are smaller than the Revolution ones…), but overall it looks like a pretty nice kite ![]()
I’ll try and see if I can fly it at lunch break next week…
Wonder if throwing a concrete paver on top of it would keep them out?
I ended up laying two bags of 3/8" stone on top of them, rather than dumping gravel in them. I try to be nice to future me.
I need to grab a lid and model a plug the next time I’m in a procrastinating mood.
A bitter sweet of having CNCs, 3D printers and other tools is you can endlessly tinker and improve projects. This can be very helpful with procrastinating on actually doing the original task, or more impactful things even
.
No truer words have been spoken! It’s better than it looks, but I completed the last bits of our ten year (12?) house rebuild in May, and managed to squeeze in the boat dashboard and switch panel rebuild just before heading overseas,(to install it). Since coming back, the full time carer thing allows time to make stuff but not put away! ![]()
In the foreground, you can see the LR3 buried under laser and airbrush parts. The future for it is uncertain, but whatever form the next CNC takes does involve a smaller footprint to share with the laser. The airbrush compressor is getting a box of its own under the table which will somehow also house a portable booth.
The next bench down and the table saw are holding bits from the CoreOne build and a few extra shelves - then a rebuild of my compressor cupboard (down where the car isn’t parked) and in a month or so it should look like a human being lives there again, and some serious tinkering will begin.
In the meantime, my wife has banned me from any further major project - no more boats from scratch, no more camper fitouts, and definitely no more house renovations - let the good times roll!! ![]()
Would appreciate some community feedback, and, well, it’s Friday… Is anyone picking up on my attempt to channel Flex Seal’s unhinged Phil Swift OTT infomercial style Ads? So far, my wife only sees unhinged, but no Phil. One friend only saw Saul Goodman vibes ![]()
Wondering whether to finish “documenting” this project, or move onto another…
You are having a lot of fun with it…so you aren’t done until it isn’t fun anymore! Or maybe now we need a rake reaper, reaper rake. I hate picking up the mess more than I hate shaking the living daylights out of the bushes.
I’ve been sort of watching, I might make one of those. I’m getting old. LOL
I have been using the new Jackpot v3 and my laser to engrave a bottle for my daughter.
I used it to prototype some metal signs for my son-in-law’s new office. One for him and one for the owner of the building.
Yesterday I went to my friend’s place to cut them out on his plasma cnc.
I also cut this out for my son-in-law to but on their barn.
Jealous of you having the tools, but not jealous of being in a situation where you need them.
I’m replacing the RAMPS controller on my prusa i3 clone with an Octopus Pro and changing over to Klipper firmware. Expecting this will mean a lot of re-tuning of the new controller. Next I’ll do the Sovol S-01 that I bought to fill in for the clone when it was down. Looking forward to trying out input shaping with the accelerometer.
Then it will be time to put the Jackpot into the Burly MPCNC, and see if I can get it to control the needle cutter I’ve printed out.
Alright! Another needle cutter! MPCNC became my platform of choice during needle cutter development… built several in the 4’ x 4’ and 4’ x 3’ size. Pretty flimsy but adequate for needle cutting…
Tom, is the needle cutter you’ve printed your own design? Our own @jhitesma had a relatively popular design out on Thingiverse and Edward Chew actually kitted his ERC TimSav foam cutter system for a time until the pandemic hit. Though I’ve been out of the needle cutter “business” for years now, I’ll be interested to see your progress on your Burly machine. Are you an active RC’er?

Ten days ago, (above) I posted a photo of my shed - and subsequently decided that October would be a self-indulgent “get it sorted” month.
So I started at the garage door and will be working my way towards the end from which the photo was taken. It’s surprising how many things I would have done “if only I’d had the cnc working” - like the door for the CoreOne base cupboard, and the shelves for the car cleaning gear (photo when it’s finished).
Today, I am working on clearing the bench at that end, which means installing the vice that’s sat there for years gathering dust, on one of my other benches, which in turn means removing the clamping setup and… well so it goes. Photos will follow, but here’s the cupboard “almost” finished for the benefit of those not watching the CoreOne thread.
Been playing hvac guy. This is a blower that pulls hot air from the gas fireplace enclosure and blows it into my office, and Shaneh’s office downstairs. All though a 9 by 13ish access hole.
Wow, the blower shaft/blades are impressively out of whack. Vibrations must have made a racket when operating.
Yea, we never turned it on.
New blower is too loud though. ![]()
bathroom is almost done:
and still trying to find time to finish the top, debug, and tune this guy:
