Just looking for some basic advice… What should my movement rates be and why does one side look jagged and the other looks clean?
I saw in another post someone who said something about roughing and finishing… What should be my normal workflow for cutting something? This was a pretty basic cut out with just two parts. Also, it didn’t go all the way through my 3/4” MDF, and I’m not sure why?
This was 150mm diameter with 5mm thick lines cut with a V1E 1/8" Carbide Single Flute on a Makita RT0701C 1-1/4 HP Compact Router set at “6” for the speed.
Any advice or tips and tricks are much appreciated.
I am going ro assume that roughness you said is the chip edges on the left side and clean cut on the right side.
Maybe the camera angle ,but it clearly shows you are cutting deeper on the left side . As the bit crosses to the right more of the bit is exposed.
The most common cause of the quick change of the cut depth is the bit moving in the collet. This also maybe why you didnt cut the depth expected.
One other thing I noticed was the bit didn’t appear to be mounted as deep in the collet as it should be. When you put a bit in a collet you should slide the bit all the way in, then move it slighty out, about a 1/16 inch or a mm or so. Then tighten the collet. Never attempt to gain more cutting depth by extending the bit out of the collet. You will damage the collet.
